Profoto 101211 overview

  • 1Description

This 2' diameter Profoto OCF Softbox is part of the Off Camera Flash accessory system intended for the B2 and B1 OCF flash heads. Ideal for portraiture, the octagonal shape and large surface area of this softbox renders a signature wrap-around quality of light, especially when used in close quarters. Light weight and speed are evident throughout its construction. The fixed front diffuser saves on setup time, as do the color-coded support rods that mount quickly to the separately-purchased, patent-pending speedring. An optional fabric grid is available to narrow the softbox's beam and add directional control.

  • Works exclusively with B2 and B1 flash heads and OCF speedrings
  • Creates a soft and flattering light
  • Color-coded rods and fixed diffusers for fast and easy setup
  • Compact and lightweight
  • Made with premium-quality fabrics
  • Can be used with a Softgrid for even more precise light shaping

    Profoto 101211 reviews

OCF Octa Softbox (2') is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 38.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Awaiting response from Profoto support I bought the Octa 3' and it assembles very easy and fast so I purchased the Octa 2' for on location shoots. Once out of the box the rods are already inserted in the softbox so all that's needed is to insert the rods into the speedring. The rods are much more difficult to insert for the smaller box than the larger one and the velcro flaps that cover the back of the box won't cover or connect. I double checked the rods to ensure that they were in the box material correctly and if they were at the very edge of the seam. Two of the rods are slightly bent during the assembly process which either is due to the box being manufactured wrong or my doing..I'm not sure. So I'm waiting on Profoto to respond to my email.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Creates beautiful light The bottom line is that these soft boxes create beautiful light, especially for their size. They collapse, which is convenient for transport and storage. I did not find assembly as simple as other reviewers -- in fact, it was a wrestling match. Directions were a few unclear pictures, so I found a demo online that was extremely helpful. I will leave them assembled as much as possible, although their collapsed size and included case is a great size. The quality is absolutely on par with all of Profotos great products. They worked awesome with a pair of B2 lights. I can't wait to experiment with new ways to use these great soft boxes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This is being sent back -- Read Doug's Review I have many other Profoto modifiers, (my fav. is the 1' x 3' softbox. My results are just like what Doug said: 1) It is VERY hard to get all of the rods in the ring. 2) Almost all of the rods are now bent around 1/2 from where they connect to the silver thingy 3) And to make it a show stopper, the tabs near the back that are supposed to velcro closed to trap the light do NOT connect. This makes this unusable for me! (I got this when I go the B2 to go with my B1, Thinking I will love the flexibility that the B2 offers, but I really really need a SMALL modifier that works. Bruce

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worthless because of quality I took this out and used it for ONE SHOOT a couple of months after purchase. (Purchased in April and shot it first time in June during my season). The first shoot one of the ends to the rods fell off. Thankfully - I had another option to use. I contacted BH but because it was out of return timing I couldn't return. I contacted Profoto and they needed pictures to confirm the issue. I took it off my shelf to take pictures. As I was putting it back on the shelf - ANOTHER ONE FELL OFF. So, this softbox is useless. I also have the grid so that's about $250 down the drain for a worthless softbox. Not too happy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great portability, but plagued by quality issues As other poster mentioned, the rods in this kit are of poor quality, and the metal end pieces on the octabox keeps falling off, and seems like it is only attached by some epoxy glue. So the quality doesn't live up to the price or expectations that comes with a premium brand like Profoto. If they can get the quality issues sorted, then this is a great compact, lightweigth location modifier. I'd give this product 5 stars except for the quality issues.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice but... I use this product for my wedding photography. It provides a beautiful and flattering light. I really like using it with the grid. HOWEVER, as mentioned in several other reviews, the metal tabs on the rods (that go into the speeding) just fell off right when I was assembling the softbox during a wedding. I used it for about a year with no problem and suddenly they fell off. I'm a huge fan of Profoto but not too happy when I buy a pricey soft box and the rods break.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from POOR QUALITY!!! STAY AWAY!! This product is absolute poor quality and more of a low grade made in China type of product than something made by Profoto. What a huge disappointment, the bezel fell off one of the spokes right after using it on my second on location shoot. The bezel is attached to the spoke using a poor quality epoxy or other cheap adhesive. A truly disappointing product as I loved it my right after my first use. BUYER BEWARE!!! Picture included.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Dissapointed All was good the first time I was using it, second time I assembled it and started to shoot and one rod collapsed. Look at it and one of the silver ends that goes into the speed ring snapped. Now what brand new item and I can't use it. I will have to contact somebody on this or just go with a better modifier from another vendor like Westcott.
