Stewart Filmscreen Cima Reviews

Excellent screen

Cima (gray) is an absolutely amazing screen. Color reproduction and black levels are stunning when used in a fully light controlled environment such as dedicated home theater space. Having used both white and gray screens in the past, I have always preferred gray screen material. IMO it provides not only much better contrast but also more pleasant, saturated colors (kind of like better-than-OLED TVs with a proper projector - Sony VPL-VW715ES in my case). Interesting enough, Cima gray is actually very light shade of gray that looks almost while; it's nothing like a dark looking gray one would expect. To give some background, in my case the screen is installed in a dedicated home theater room that has painted gray walls and dark blue ceiling/ back wall; there are no windows and only a door that leads to a room with windows. Stewart says this specific (gray) material can help with some light rejection and that is the case - for a small amount of light. I could watch a movie during the day w/o closing the door that leads to a room with windows but I prefer full dark environment so rarely do it. I must absolutely mention one more thing - packaging (right). The way how the screen was packaged was w/o any doubt the best packaging I have ever seem from any product at any price. If I had to describe the packaging in one word, that would be love. The Stewart company is absolutely proud of their products, and there was so much love put into protecting it that one can feel it every step unpacking. *A lot* of strong bubble wrap; a dedicated cylinder to protect actual screen material that was rolled with another layer of think protective foam on top; the outside box had extra edges to protect one side drops... you get the picture. My delivery driver dropped the screen in front of me (!) while unloading from the truck (the package was more than 12 feet long and ~50 lb so not easy to handle...). I was like OMG... envisioning possible damage, claim, return, waiting forever for the replacement... To my surprise, when I opened it, it had so much extra measures taken to prevent such drops from even touching the screen or parts, that I was thoroughly impressed (there was no damage from the drop at all, of course). Assembly was also very easy. Regardless of the fact that the frame is ~10 feet wide, it was very precisely cut and easy to assemble. The screen materials locks into place with preinstalled snap buttons (requires a bit of stretching). Once snapped in though, the surface was perfectly flat with no wrinkles of any kind; I would imagine it is not easy to manufacture such product as any slightest misalignment would results in a wrinkle. Looks great assembled. Overall, absolutely great product that I would recommend and would buy again w/o a hint of second thought.
