B+W Screw-In Metal Wide Angle Lens Hood Overview

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

The B+W #920 wide-angle metal lens hood is made of black-anodized aluminum with light-absorbing flat black ribs on the inside and protects against contrast-reducing, uncontrolled, stray light. It is designed for wide-angle (zoom) lenses with angles of view up to 70° wide (approx. 28mm in 35mm format).

B+W Screw-In Metal Wide Angle Lens Hood Reviews

The B+W Lens Hood for wide-angle is not functional.

I purchased this lens hood with high hopes, primarily due to the reputation B+W has for quality products. The subpar quality and durability of the Canon FD lens hoods largely prompted my intention behind the purchase. I was specifically looking for a hood for my Canon FD 24mm and 28mm lenses. However, upon receiving the product, I found that it only covers a limited portion of the sunlight, which made it overpriced for what it offered. Determined to give it a fair chance, I decided to use the hood while shooting with Ektachrome 100 film. Unfortunately, it resulted in a significant vignette effect, which, coupled with its inability to protect the lens from direct sunlight, left me quite disappointed. While the construction is undeniably lovely, I ended up with a beautiful piece of metal that cost $60 but did not deliver on performance or functionality. Overall, I cannot recommend this product based on my experience.

This lens hood is very well made with high quality threads. I wish there was some way to use a lens cap without having to remove the hood.

This is a wide angle hood and the 17-40mm is a wide angle lens, so this is correct.

No, it has a 77mm thread when the lens has a 72mm thread. Also, the lens comes with a hood in the box.

Will this hood work on a nikkor 80-200 lens?
Asked by: Anonymous
Although this lens hood can fit a Nikon AF 80-200mm f/2.8D lens, it is made to cover wide angle lenses. A more suitable lens hood is the B+W 77mm Screw-In Metal Telephoto Lens Hood #960, B&H # BWLHTM77. https://bhpho.to/2krpqLg
