B+W 65-069652 Overview

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

The B+W #920 wide-angle metal lens hood is made of black-anodized aluminum with light-absorbing flat black ribs on the inside and protects against contrast-reducing, uncontrolled, stray light. It is designed for wide-angle (zoom) lenses with angles of view up to 70° wide (approx. 28mm in 35mm format).

A rubber lens hood doesn't provide enough protection, and filters can degrade the image. For protection, this wide angle metal lens hood fits the bill, and can be used with wide angle and telephoto lenses. Perfect, but harder to find than you'd think!

Well made, but no front threading

I was really hoping that I would keep this hood. It's very well made, is very light, and does its job. I ended up returning it because it does not have front threading and I would like to attach a front cap to the other side of the hood when the camera is not in use.

Well I dropped my camera pretty hard, nothing seems to have been permanently damaged except the lens hood holder. So when I put it on I have to remember to straighten it every time, (was my favorite lens), so I tried different screw on lens hoods, but it gave raise to another problem, vignetting of the wide angles. This one however does not give me that problem. A 72mm snap on lens cap fits with the lens hood on.

Built to handle the street

When I'm headed out for a day of street-oriented photography, I put one of these big boys on my favorite prime and hit the road. No more tulip lens hoods banging into doorways or falling off because they won't lock securely in place. B+W makes sturdy equipment and this lens hood is no exception.

Yes, this will fit onto the front of the 77mm threads of the lens and will not vignette.

No, it has a 77mm thread when the lens has a 72mm thread. Also, the lens comes with a hood in the box.
