Well-suited to macro and close-up photography, the AHL-HC100 Amaran Halo LED Ring Flash from Aputure is designed for Canon cameras and will provide a soft, yet powerful light for illuminating your subjects. It features a guide number of 49' at ISO 100 as well as coverage of 45°, which allows photographers to use 50mm and greater focal lengths. Also, the 100 LEDs have a CRI of >95 for accurate color reproduction along with illumination of 1020 lux at 1.6' during constant on mode, making it useful for video as well as stills.

The unit can be customized to output light in full, left, or right modes. This allows you to dial in the exact look and effect you need for your shot and it can be mounted to either the lens or the control unit. There is also a brightness dial on the unit with 3 stops of stepless adjustment. And, an AF assist light is available with the half-press of the shutter button. The flash will sync with shutter speeds up to 1/200 second. Additionally, it comes with eight adapter rings: 49mm, 52mm, 55mm, 58mm, 62mm, 67mm, 72mm, & 77mm.

    Aputure AHL-HC100 reviews

AHL-HC100 Amaran Halo LED Ring Flash for Canon Cameras is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sounded good, but not worth buying. After reading reviews I purchased this ring flash. Upon receiving the unit, I tried it out. First, the ring adapter for my lens size didn't screw into the lens. It did screw into the UV filter I had on the lens, however. When I took a few shots, the light ring did not clear the lens view, leaving a circular shadow in the shot. The continuous light feature would not shut off when it was time to take a flash shot. Turned out to be a waste of time for me. Thankfully B & H has a great return policy. Purchased a Yongnuo YN14EX unit, which works great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as claimed. I shoot mostly macro and a regular flash is not the best for that but this has worked great so far. It has allowed me to show in low light areas capturing what was before difficult at best. Also use it at night with it on full time to capture sots of hummingbird moths that feed on a tree;s blooms in the yard with good results. I use it on my 18-55 kit lens and my 150 sigma macro without issues. It's not a TTL flash so you have to know a bit about exposure to really make the best of it but that's minor and I suppose you could turn it on then meter the camera for the shot accordingly. I would have given it five stars if it was TTL but I knew that going in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value I have used ring flashes for close-up shots (including in the surgical setting) for several decades. I needed a new one for outdoor macro shots, but did not want to spend an arm and a leg. I have other inexpensive ringlights that do not stay on the lens properly, or do not give off sufficient light to do the job. This one is different: first of all, they provide every possible adapter ring, so it WILL fit on your lens, no matter what filter size you have: that is HUGE! some of the other ones come with a 52 mm mount, then you have to add your own adapter and they tend to juggle a lot. Also, the adapter rings clip into the front of the flash - they do not screw onto it. This makes attachment and removal so much easier - you do not accidentally leave the adapter in the lens when you remove the setup from the lens, because the mechanism for removal from each component is so different. You can adjust the light output, also very valuable, and you can use it with a modeling light. The only thing that does come across as cheap are the buttons you use to control which lights to use (continuous/modeling vs flash, and right and left sections of the flash). I have not figured out the sequence yet, so I just keep pushing the buttons until I reach the setup I want. Small deal, considering the price. I have only had the flash for about a week, but so far, I am very pleased.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super Peformance I bought this as a backup unit. I love the output and it is now my main macro light. I do a lot of mini-macro and this light does exactly what it is supposed to. Simple to use. I have had it for two weeks so this may change to a 5 Star. Buy it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product Previously I used a Meike MK-14EXT Macro TTL ring flash but it stopped forking suddenly after using 4 times. AHL-HC100 is 50% of the cost of a Meike MK-14EXT. It was nicely packed and set-up was quite straightforward.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for what it is This Ring Flash is very good for what it is. It is not one of those $300 plus co-ordinated macro lights. It has to be set up manually and the camera does not recognize the device as a flash unit. However with a little bit of work you can get very effective lighting for those close up inside macro shots. I was able to successfully take several close-up shots of a small spider and victim on my shaded basement steps using a faster shutter speed and lower aperture value than before. Great value for money.
