Meade LX70 Overview

Designed for deep-sky observation with a fast focal ratio for astrophotography/imaging, Meade Instrument's LX70 150mm f/5 Reflector Telescope features a 750mm focal length and a large parabolic mirror for obtaining detailed images of the moon, clear views of the planets, and the ability to reach out past our solar system to discover deep-sky objects. The scope is outfitted with a precise 2" Crayford-style focuser and a 1.25" adapter to increase the size and types of accessories that can be used with it. Meade includes two Plossl eyepieces to get new users started; a 9mm that yields 83x power and a 26mm for a 29x magnification. The scope's f/5 focal ratio produces a wide field of view that is ideal for astrophotography/imaging of everything from the moon to nebulae.

The included manual equatorial mount features brass worm-gear drives on both axes for smooth tracking performance, aluminum setting circles and a built-in leveling bubble. The large-knob slow-motion control cables make it easy to track objects even while when wearing gloves. Push-pull adjustments on both the declination and right ascension axes assist in fine-tuning the polar alignment; while the built-in latitude scale will help you dial in your site location quickly. The LX70 mount includes a Vixen-style dovetail for mounting other optical tubes up to 20 pounds, an adjustable-height stainless steel tripod, and an accessory tray with holders for both 1.25" and 2" eyepieces.

Optical Performance
  • Large 150mm aperture is ideal for viewing and imaging of deep-sky objects like nebulae, as well as the moon and planets
  • Fast f/5 focal ratio helps to preserve a wide field of view, image brightness, and resolution
  • 750mm focal length maintains a generous field of view with a moderate magnification potential
  • Newtonian reflector design reduces chromatic aberration and fringing, while allowing larger apertures versus refractor models
  • Highly-reflective primary parabolic mirror maximizes light transmission through the light path to ensure bright and crisp views
  • 0.760 arcsecond Dawes' Limit resolution
  • Single-speed Crayford-style focuser uses a toothless tension rod to control the froward/back motion of the drawtube, allowing for precise focus control with zero backlash
  • 2" holder on focuser drawtube allows the use of larger eyepieces and accessories, and a 1.25" reducer adapter further expands compatibility
Mount & Tripod
Mount:
  • German equatorial mount allows for precise tracking along the right-ascension axis to make it easier to keep near and deep-sky objects centered during long observing sessions
  • Brass worm gears won't wear down over years of use
  • Manually controlled with flexible slow-motion cables for more precise tracking with reduced vibration
  • Push-pull declination and right ascension adjustments
  • Integrated port supports optional polar alignment scope
  • Vixen-style dovetail saddle
  • Aluminum setting circles
  • Built-in leveling bubble
Tripod:
  • Two-stage legs
  • Adjustable-height
  • 20 lb payload capacity
  • Leg spreader with lock
  • Accessory Tray with Eyepiece Holders
Included Accessories
Eyepieces:
  • 1.25" diameter nosepiece accepts most astronomical filters
  • 9mm eyepiece yields 83x magnification
  • 26mm eyepiece yields 29x magnification
  • Use with included reducer to fit into the larger 2" drawtube holder
Finder:
  • Low 6x power ensures a wide field of view for faster alignment and easier star-hopping navigation
  • 30mm aperture reduces profile while still allowing users to easily find alignment stars
  • Crosshair reticle enables precision centering, requiring less fine tuning in the eyepiece
  • Includes mounting bracket
