Key Features
  • 532nm Green Aiming Laser
  • 835nm Eye-Safe IR Laser
  • 835nm IR LED Illuminator
  • High and Low Output Modes
Now available for the commercial market, the DBAL-A3 class 1/3R Civilian Visible Green/IR Laser Sight with IR Illuminator from Steiner Optics is a durable yet compact multifunction laser aiming device that incorporates a green aiming laser, an IR aiming laser, and an infrared LED illuminator. The Dual Beam Aiming Laser (DBAL) features independently adjustable lasers that allow the operator to choose the output mode and correct the impact point of each laser. A powerful IR LED provides an independent illuminator. This configuration of the DBAL is outfitted with a green aiming laser that is visible without NVDs up to 50' away during the day and 820 yards at night. For covert operation and use with NVDs, the DBAL has an 835nm IR laser that can be seen out to 275 yards, day or night. The IR illuminator enables target designation or allows users to flood the night vision scene with infrared light owing to its adjustable beam angle from a tight 2° spot to a wide 30° flood. This entire laser/illuminator system runs on a single included CR123A battery.

This entire laser/illuminator system runs on a single included CR123A battery.

The DBAL-A3 features an integrated activation pushbutton switch with an included remote activation pressure pad. The remote switch allows the operator to activate the DBAL while remaining in the firing position. Simply tap either switch once for momentary activation, or double-tap for five continuous minutes. A mode selector switch at the rear of the housing enables the operator to set the power output that suits their targeting task. Independent windage and elevation dials enable users to zero and perform shot correction for the green and IR lasers. The DBAL-A3 is made of the lightweight and durable 6061-T6 aluminum alloy with a matte black corrosion- and scratch-resistant Type III hard anodized finish. This rugged housing is ESD compliant for air worthiness, and it meets MIL-STD 810G standards for extreme temperature tolerance and waterproofing.

First impressions

Overall my first impressions of the dbal-a3 are good. The low power laser is nice, and the high power 5mW is pretty nice as well. The IR settings work great with a WP pvs-14. I will say my only complaint is that the illuminator was a little underwhelming at first, but most certainly useable. For a better illuminator, maybe check the dbal-d2.

Poor Customer Service!

Purchased the Steiner DBAL A3 from B&H on Sept 16th, 2020 and received it shortly after. I knew I wouldn’t be getting the riffle I purchased the DBAL to be installed on until December so I checked all the functions and made sure things were in working order and then put it on a shelf. December came and so did the new rifle so I installed all my new toys on the riffle and quickly noticed the laser and the IR on the DBAL would sometimes shut down like there was a short somewhere. Around January 3rd the DBAL stopped working all together, nothing will turn on, it is completely useless. So I called B&H and was told that I was past the 30 days so there wasn’t anything they were will to do for me. They told me that Steiner is over seas so my best bet was to email them. I now own a $1,200 paper weight, thanks B&H for your great customer service!
