YN-14EX-C Macro Ring Lite for Canon Cameras is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 69.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great I was a little leery because of the price, but I have two Yongnuo speedlights that I love. I figured for the price, what have I got to lose? I was very pleasantly surprised. The light is bright enough to use for portraits, and controllable enough to use for macro. It is plastic construction, but overall feels well built enough. At 1/5 the the cost of a Canon ring light, even if I had to replace it a few more times I would be money ahead. This is a very good entry level ring light. The only drawback is that it doesn't come with a 62mm mounting ring. A quick trip to the camera tore for a $9.00 62mm-72mm step up ring and I was good to go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific upgrade and a great bargain Replaced a generic TTL ring light with this one for flower and plant photography. I was skeptical of the brand and features because the price seemed too low. My old $100 flash only had an on-off switch and ready light while this YN-14EX-C has a lighted LCD, full E-TTL, manual power, in addition to ratio lighting and LED focus lamps. Everything works on my EOS 500D/T1i. I would have liked a locking hotshoe clamp in place of a screw-down design (which stripped on my old flash) but at this price I'm not complaining. I really like the flash head's clip-on system, which allows quick removal during lens swaps compared to unthreading filter rings.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Mine had issues There are a lot of good reviews of this product here and other place, so I was expecting good things. I initially thought mine was working okay, but after more testing it had issues. I'm not 100% sure if I got a defective unit or if it does not work with the Canon 80D. First of all, it will only fire when the camera is set at ISO 400. If I manually set the ISO to anything else, the flash will not fire. It does not matter if the flash is set in TTL mode or manual mode. If ISO is in auto, nothing will ever be chosen other than ISO 400. The other thing that happens is the FEC does not always work correctly. I would say that about 50% of the shots I take will not use the FEC setting and will fire the flash at the power needed for 0 EV. I did a test just today where I set the FEC at -3 and fired 4 shots one after the other. Two shots came out dark and two shots came out light (dark - light - light - dark). The flash fired for each shot as it was being used as the main light source.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Affordable Ring Lite I purchased this for product macro work. The system's ettl is pretty spot on 90% of the time (it tends to overexpose rather than under with certain scenes). The built in LEDs are extremely useful for manually fine tuning focus. Build quality is solid, not solid as a tank, but not filmsy like cheap plastic. Originally I was hesitant about buying Yongnuo products instead of Canon's version, but the 72mm mounting option sold me. Along with the price... Overall, I can't say any bad things about this system that would stop me from buying another.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Battery door problems. Like so many others the flash ring itself is good quality, and works well with my Canon 5dmark3. The battery door cannot withstand the pressure of the 4 AA batteries pushing against it and finally gives up, and will not close properly. Just for the fun of it, I opened the battery compartment of my Canon 580 Ex . There are four little fishhooks ( for the lack of terminology) the attach the door to the side rails of the battery compartment. These four little fish hooks are 1/4 of the strength of the Canon battery compartment. Yongnuo has a good , inexpensive ring lite, they only have to do a little more work on redesigning the battery door. I have ordered a replacement from B&H of two new doors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very worthy contender I am a pro of 35 years and the only macro photography I have done could only be called close up photograpgy with a 24-70L or the like. I picked up a Canon 100mm macro lens because I always like to try out new things but soon discovered that macro is a serious black hole and a light sucker, requiring massive amounts of light right under the shadow of the lens. Well, I could not justify $-$ for a Canon macro flash and thought I would try an economical starting point.I read the reviews nd deacided to start out with this and see how I like macro photography with light for hundreds and hundreds of dollars less. I first thought that I would be settling for something cheaply made and underpowered but at least I wouldnt break the experimental money budget. Well, let me tell you I was EXTREMELY pleasantly surprised with the workings, build and operation of this ring flash. It is a very worthy participant in the macro ring flash arena and even though the canon may be a little sturdier or something like that, this really suits my needs and I dont feel like I have to change to Canon right away and if I did it would be to the twin macro flash MT-24EX because I already have a very useable ring light in this. Just because it is expensive or a name brand does not make it better. I have no problem spending money buying the best as I have all top of the line Canon Bodies, L series lenses and computers but sometines things are just expensive because they can get away with it, dont sell enough to get the price down or you are paying for the massive marketing budget. Do what you will... I like this ring flash!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Light, Great Value Macro photography is not something that I often shoot. In fact I have been shooting for over 50 years and never felt compelled to purchase a ring flash until I saw this one by Yongnuo. I have had such great results from their other products that I own and the price was right so I figured, why not. I love this light! It is a great value. I do a lot of tabletop photography so this light will work great for that as well as macro work. I love that the kit includes adapter rings to fit all of my Canon lenses and others as well. Best of all it is a fraction of the cost of the Canon models. So bottom line: If macro photography is your bread and butter, your favorite images to shoot, then you should invest in the Canon system because it is more versatile. but if you are an occasional macro shooter and would also like a simple system for macro, tabletop and other fill-in purposes, then you could not go wrong with the YN-14-EX-C.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great flash for a little money As someone who has never shot with a ring flash before I guess this might be a little subjective, but I'm pretty impressed with the unit overall. Solid build quality, quick refresh, lots of adjustability. The only negative I've seen so far are the lack of high speed sync (so I'm stuck at 1/200 on my 5dMiii... Otherwise, 2nd curtain is great and the bracketing functions work perfectly... If you are going to do portrait work with this get a diffuser
