Savage 46018 reviews

Translum Backdrop (Medium Weight, 60" x 18') is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Every bit as good as the heavy I have used the traditional Translum for several years. My roll finally ran out after getting dirty, etc... Savage had just come out with the medium and the light weight versions. When buying, I chose this instead of the lightweight because I was worried the light weight would be too transparent and not diffuse enough. I was a little worried about the medium as well. I shouldn't have been. Side by side the medium diffuses every bit as much as the older heavy weight Translum. I am typically using this in product photography as both a shoot through background and diffusion material attached to Matthews flag frames. It works just as well as the heavy for both of these tasks and reduces light loss by a bit as well. Perhaps my favorite part I discovered in using the new medium weight was it's reduced tendency to curl. I fought the heavy Translum's curl all the time. It was not easy to flatten. The medium still has a curl, but it is vastly easier to tame.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great for soft, wraparound back light I light this from behind with a large, softened, parabolic umbrella and it creates a beautiful, soft, wraparound back light. The resulting images are partial silhouettes, with the edges lit by the wraparound. It's great for featuring the shape and posing of models, and easily allows full-body shots of the model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I will replace this when it is needed. For nearly 50 years I have been trying to get decent shots of the stuff I make. There is so much to learn to be a fair photographer but I end up spending my energies just learning how to do what I actually do. The bulk of it has been sculptural ironwork (forged) and carved wood. This backdrop has helped me get presentable shots on my first trial. There is so much to get right for a decent show-off that getting an answer to one of them is a huge help. Thanks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes, I would buy this again. Translum is great! I use it to double diffuse the light when shooting products. You can make a very nice gradation across the surface. The Translum can be cut to any size frame or you can just hang it on the arm of a C-stand. Unlike fabric diffusers, which get wrinkles, the Translum is inexpensive enough to toss and use a new piece so no defect will reflect in the surface of your product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High-key background I wanted to create a blown-out high key background for some two-thirds length shots of my model. I wasn't sure which weight of Translum to buy, but I ended up choosing the medium, and it worked well. I shot a flash into an umbrella a few feet behind the Translum, which created a nice large blown out area on the Translum.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Material for DIY Diffusers Awesome material for building DIY Diffusers. I love how flexible and how durable this material is. It's super easy to clean to if you happen to splash or spill on it. The only bad thing is that one end of my roll came a bit damaged. B&H took care of this for me very easily and very promptly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great for creating soft reflections/ speculars in bottles I bought this for a wine bottle catalogue shoot. I'm glad i did. One issue I found in my experience though- the Translum appeared to add a very slight warmth to the light so I had to fix that in post.
