Nissin Di700A overview

  • 1Description

Free yourself from cables and optical alignment with the built-in Nissin Air System of the Nissin Di700A Flash, which provides reliable 2.4 GHz TTL triggering from up to 98' away. This system works with Sony cameras with Multi Interface Shoe that feature ADI / P-TTL metering and offers wireless slave capabilities for off-camera flash use when using the optional Air 1 Commander. The Di700A is also a very capable flash with a guide number of 177' at ISO 100 and 200mm as well as a zoom range of 24-200mm, which can be controlled manually through the Commander. A built-in wide-angle panel is available for coverage of lenses down to 16mm on full frame.

Bounce flash capabilities come in the form of tilting from -7 to 90° and rotating left & right 180° for a full 360° of coverage. Specific to this model is a color LED control panel that allows users to quickly and easy see and adjust settings. Also, it has support for high-speed and 1st curtain sync modes and has a recycle time of 0.1 to 4 seconds. Additionally, it runs on 4 AA batteries and uses the BM-02 quick loading battery magazine. This flash features the newer Sony Multi Interface Shoe and is not directly compatible with the older Sony/Minolta-style Auto-lock Accessory Shoe.

    Nissin Di700A reviews

Di700A Flash for Sony Cameras with Multi Interface Shoe is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better now that I've learned its secrets. This flash is great for the price and easily synched with the Air Commander for Sony. However, there are a lot of things you need to know that aren't included in the documentation: 1. The battery life is not great, and worse so for the commander module. Invest in rechargeable batteries and if the flash begins to exhibit odd behavior or the commander's lights dim when attached to the camera, swap them out and recharge. 2. HSS can be activated with the use of the pilot/test button. More specific details can be found on Brian Smith's site. 3. The manual is incredibly lacking. Google is your friend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good except for recycle time. I use this mainly for event shooting.Pros; firstly, it is very well made. It has a lot of options and they are very easy to control even without a lcd. Love that even in ttl you can increase the light output; it's like a hybrid manual. It additionally has full manual control. Loading battery is not typical but very easy. The cons; recycle time is not quick enough for fast paced events or for my style of shooting. I bought a battery pack and now the recycle time is very quick. I high recommend a battery pack. I am planning to buy another flash.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Di700 flash for Sony - not very good I sent this flash back to B&H (and as usual, they are a great company and no problems sending it back). Two reasons, first the build quality is horrible. The very first time I opened the Air Commander unit to put in batteries, the door almost broke, and I'm one of those overly careful people. So I figured if it almost broke the first time, I can't imagine two months later. Also, even though the flash claims it would work at 24mm...the flash did not cover the full frame even at 35mm. Even when using the plastic panel that is supposed to give the flash a wider angle coverage - it still didn't cover the frame. Yikes! I bought it for my a7rII - and it was like a plastic toy. My next flash will be the Sony.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from no manual zoom adjustment Just got this speedlight a few days ago together with the Air1. So far it looks pretty good. It feels well-built enough, it works well and it is easy to use. I find the interface to be quite simple. The HSS is a feature I appreciate. One downside, it's pretty big and the head does not fit with any diffusers I own except a Gary Fong one (and that one barely). Biggest miss though and that is why I give it only 4 stars is that there is no manual control for zooming. I think that it's especially important for Sony a7 that many people like me use with manual lenses. The zoom can be controlled manually from Air1 but not on a standalone speedlight, which makes it more strange that Nissin didn't implement that in the speedlight's interface. I would give it even less than 4 stars for this miss but I am generous because there aren't many options for Sony a7.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Work great I have 3 of these units and an Air 1 Commander. I use them with my Sony a6000 and Wescott Apollo light modifiers. Easy to set up and easy to configure the 3 flashes into 1, 2 or 3 groups, depending on the light setup I want. Someone more limited that the Canon EX600s I use with my 5DM3 (3 groups instead of 5, full stop power increments instead of ) but still very versatile and useful at a fraction of the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than my Canon 600ex RT I switched from Canon to Sony and the Canon 600 ex-rt Speedlight's which I had 8 of did not work with Sony and do not have a slave move so I couldn't even use them as dumb lights. The Nissin works excellent every time, plus the interface is dead simple. I purchased two more so I have a total of 3 to work off a single transmitter and I use 5 Nikon SB 80 Speedlight in slave mode to have the full compliment of 8-speedlights I need for real estate photography. I picked up one as a Christmas present for my granddaughter, which make four I have purchased so far;0)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Speed Light! Works fabulously with my Sony Alpha7r. Easy to sync off camera if you have their Air1 commander.
