The black DS100 28" Pole from Ergotron is used to add a second crossbar or top-mounted pivot, or to move displays to a higher position. This pole easily attaches to a DS100 free standing or grommet mount base. It replaces the shorter 14" pole in standard DS100 configurations, when extra length is required. The pole accommodates larger displays where height of monitors is an issue

Ergotron DS100 28" Pole Reviews
It’s a pole
It’s a metal pole. A bit pricey for 28” of metal pole, but you pay for convenience I guess.Would make a great improvised weapon.
this is the pole only.
I purchased this for my office/studio where i use several LX'Sit-stand monitor and keyboard kits. This accessory provides added mounting height as advertised; but there are three things that i would share with others who like me are optimizing the ergotron kit; none of my issues are show-stoppers for my particular setup. (1) the pole's base is not threaded (as the LX Sit-Stand pole), for $40 this is a disappointment, and i anticpate limits mounting to ONLY one monitor... the existing set-screws do secure the pole adequately for my single 27LG monitor on the LX Sit-stand arm; it is solid, however if i were ever to mount a second monitor arm on this pole, i shall certainly fit a +/-1mm collar/spacer as well as find longer set screws on the desktop clamp. (2) the pipe itself is about 2mm less diameter than the LX Sit-Stand pole, consequently requiring a bit of gaffers tape to fit the gap, (3) no pole rings (PN#97-844) are included, which for my purposes mounting the LX Key-board arm is necessary. you'll find that ergotron usually provides good hardware kits with all of the kits i have purchased... but for some reason they seem to skimp a bit on sending these rings. All told, the ergotron LX series sit-stand products are top-shelf and premium... This pole does not match the LX series quality, however if you're in a pinch like me, it works (save the embarassment of paying $1.50/inch for a black powdercoated 38mm pipe shipped from China). my recommendation, if you've the time, would be to contact BHPhoto tech team, who i am sure would have lot's be better options.
