UniqBall UBH35X overview

  • 1Description

The UBH 35X Ball Head with Bidirectional Clamp from Uniqball is a combination leveling base, pan/tilt head, and ball head. It has a unique design that incorporates an outer ball with a bubble to level the clamp, and an inner ball for panning and tilting. Once the outer ball has been leveled and locked, the inner ball will only move on the Y-axis, maintaining level pans. The head can also be used as a conventional ball head with a full range of movement by locking the inner ball and only using the outer ball.

The UBH 35X stands 3.7" high, and can hold up to 33.1 lb. It has an Arca-type compatible clamp that works with the included quick-release plate, as well as most other Arca-type plates. The head's clamp is oriented on the Y-axis so that you can slide the plate front-to-back to balance your camera when using a long lens. A hex key is included to allow you rotate the clamp 90°. The head comes with a carrying case to protect the head when it is not in use.

    UniqBall UBH35X reviews

UBH 35X Ball Head with Bidirectional Clamp is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best all-around ball head replaced my gimbal My husband was the first to buy this ball head, now I have the large one for wildlife and my big lenses and the small one for my lighter lenses. A friend of ours purchased one after he saw how well they work. He sold his gimbal because he said he'll never use it again after purchasing this ball head. I'm sure we will probably end up doing the same. We travel a lot for photography and packing the uniqball takes less space and weighs less then a gimbal. It is now our all-around ball head.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Winner I have had the larger UBH 45X for many months now and really like the leveling base / gimbal capability of the head. I wanted a smaller version to go on my travel tripod and the UBH 35X is a perfect fit. It's small enough to fold inside the reversed legs of my tripod and has all the great features of its big brother. While the gimbal feature gets all the press and is largely what I use the big head for, the leveling base is the killer feature of the 35X. Having it built in saves a ton of weight and allows me to get perfectly level shots and panos with ease. The weight rating seems spot on as I have used my EOS 1D X with 70-200 f/2.8 II with no problems at all. The inner ball actually seems a bit better on the 35X as there's little upward movement when you lock it down. The outer ball isn't quite as smooth at the 45X, but that may just be a factor of needing to be broken in a bit more. It's not an issue at least. As for the cons, you will likely need a pano clamp, L-plate, and other features to get the most out of it, and it definitely takes some getting used to at first. Also, on a smaller tripod, you won't be able to shoot straight down without reversing the camera/lens as the adjustment knob hits the tripod base. Overall, though, it functions as a ballhead, levelling base, and gimbal with very few limitations and the levelling feature is priceless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LIGHT WEIGHT AND WOKS GREAT I love this head. It took a little getting use to but now I wouldn't trade it. Absolutely no problems since I learned to use it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get some Balls This tool works well and is robust. No issues holding my GFX 50s Fuji medium format with the 110 f=2 lens or the Nikon D850 with the 70-200. ( using the lens mount ) Definitely a good investment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fell short of expectations I've had this head for about a year and a half, and I agree w/ another reviewer that the larger ball seems poorly machined. With slight friction applied to manage the weight of my camera/lens, the ball drags and snags. I had my first unit replaced thinking that it was a bad one-off. It wasn't. I have the same problem w/ the replacement. I feel generally frustrated using this head, and am looking for a replacement. My 3 star rating reflects the effort they made in presenting a very interesting concept, attention to looks, and that it is nonetheless still operational. It's just too grabby and glitchy for me. I would find it difficult to recommend this head to anyone until they address the missing fluid nature of ball head. If they addressed that issue and put a replacement in my hands I would be perfectly satisfied. Of course.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Where's the quality control Found that the ball was binding in several spots making it difficult to adjust tension out range of movement . Several others tried out this uniqball with the same comments. The concept is great...hope it wears in. In this day and age there is no excuse for either design/manufacturering or quality control to allow for such a flaw
