Rokinon 100mm f/2.8 Overview

  • 1Description

Home in on close-up subjects with the Sony E mount 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens from Rokinon, which affords life-size 1:1 magnification along with a minimum focusing distance of 1'. This manual focus portrait-length lens also incorporates one high refractive index element and one extra-low dispersion element into its design to reduce chromatic aberrations and distortions throughout the focusing range. An Ultra Multi-Coating has also been applied to minimize flare and ghosting for increase contrast and color neutrality. A long focal length lens with close focusing abilities and a high magnification ratio, this macro lens is ideal for making close-up, detailed images of nearby subjects.

This 100mm f/2.8 lens features a Sony E mount, and is compatible with full-frame sensors or APS-C sensors, where it will provide a 150mm equivalent focal length.
A bright f/2.8 maximum aperture is useful for working in a variety of lighting conditions and the minimum f/32 aperture helps to attain a long depth of field when working with close-up subjects.
One high refractive index element and one extra-low dispersion element help to control chromatic aberrations and minimize distortions throughout the focusing and aperture ranges.
An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to lens elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for increased clarity, contrast, and color fidelity.
Featuring a macro design, this lens affords a 1:1 maximum magnification ratio along with a minimum focusing distance of 1'.
Benefitting working with especially close subjects, this manual focus lens features an internal focus design to maintain the overall lens length during use. Additionally, the front filter mount does not rotate when focusing to better enable the use of polarizers, graduated ND, and other filter types that require precise positioning.
A rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out-of-focus quality when using selective focus or shallow depth of field techniques.

    Rokinon 100mm f/2.8 Reviews

100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens for Sony E is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Macro Option for Sony E I bought this lens for product photography and am extremely happy with its results. If you are juggling between macro lenses for Sony-E mounts, this lens is a great, affordable option. You will find that manual focus actually provides a lot more control. It is not only sharp, but it opens up a whole new world of options when really utilizing its minimum focusing distance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent macro lens I am really enjoying using this macro lens with my Sony A6300. Yes, you have to set the aperture manually, but in A mode auto exposure works beautifully. Manual focus but you probably wanted that anyway in a macro lens. Sony focus peaking works to allow precision focusing at any spot you choose. I am extremely happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Bokeh, and Macro, but not for moving objects This lens gives very dreamy bokeh, sharp macro photos. I have mixed success on taking potrait photos which I never dream of. Live view and focus peeking would help to get the (slowly moving) objects in focus. With 5-axis stablisation system on the camera body would reduce small jitters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for the job! I bought the Sony E mount version of this lens for dedicated indoor studio macro work. For Sony cameras this lens configuration has a factory attached and not removable adapter at the f stop ring to compensate for the shorter flange distance difference versus SLRs mounts. Rokinon rarely shows images of the Sony mount. On a Canon body the f-stop ring is close up against the body. The lens attaches securely with no wiggle or other looseness. The E mount version overall length is 5.87” as stated in the specs, the hood adds another 3.2”. Minimum focus distance is 1 foot from the sensor on the Sony a7II, so working distance at 1:1 is about half that and even less with the hood in place. Filter threads are sufficiently deep, but the lens cap has 3 mm deep threads to secure it to the lens barrel, so be aware that some UV and other filters with narrow rings might not let the cap fully seat and end up resting on the filter glass instead of seating around the entire circumference of the lens barrel.? With the hood reversed for storage, the end of the hood sits even with the end of the lens barrel with no room for a cap between the lens barrel and the hood. The weight is not awful, on an a7II it balances nicely, without any need of a tripod collar. I can see where the balance would be an issue on the Sony 6000 series. The f stop ring moves easily, with full and half stop points clicking securely into place. I actually like that the f stop ring is away from lens mount a bit. Focus is silky smooth over the180 degrees. Fine focus control was the deciding factor for my purchase and is the very strong point for this lens. Sony focus peaking makes this a most useful macro lens, more than making up for the lack of auto focus. It comes with a nice drawstring bag too. It’s no Leica or even a Zeiss but it’s tack sharp with tolerable optical and chromatic issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Lens, good price I'm new to macro photography. I started using extension tubes. Soon I wanted a real macro lens so can also photograph things that aren't close. This is a great lens at a decent price. I don't mind manual focus because with macro you shouldn't rely on autofocus anyway. The lens is heavy and well built. The focus ring turns very smooth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Macro for the price This lens has amazing Bokeh. Can be very sharp if you take the time to manually focus. This lens is also heavy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great macro/portrait lens Lens is very heavy, i found a canon tripod collar that fits this lens, otherwise I think is hard to do macro work handheld. Colors are different than what you might expect sony, focusing is very pleasant and is sharp!
