Interfit F5 overview

  • 1Description

The F5 Three-Head Fluorescent Lighting Kit with Boom Arm from Interfit is a versatile photo or video lighting solution for portraits, products, or ecommerce in the studio or on the road. The kit includes three F5 five-lamp fixtures, each with a 20 x 28" softbox and five daylight-balanced compact fluorescent lamps. A boom clamp and boom that extends from 30-55" is included as well as a 10' air-cushioned stand to support it and a counterweight bag to balance one of the lights. Two 7.5' air-cushioned stands are provided for the other two lamp heads and softboxes.

Having an overhead light has a significant effect of the quality of light in your setup. In portraiture and group photography the fixture and softbox can be used as a hairlight to add dimension to the shot by separating the subject from the background. Alternately, the boom light could be used to light the background or small cyc from above, while rotating the light allows you to feather the output to create a graduated background. Using a light overhead and pointed down at the subject's face produces a high fashion look and when used in product photography this setup adds modeling to the item to selectively reveal its form.

The F5 head has a sturdy but lightweight polycarbonate construction with five Edison base sockets. Power can be regulated via 3 toggles on the unit's back panel that power on/off 2 lamps per switch and produce the tungsten equivalent of up to 800W. The lamp head has a tilting adapter with an industry-standard receiver for mounting on stands with a 5/8" (16mm) top stud. It's also conveniently designed to mount directly to the included 20 x 28" softboxes without using a speed ring.

    Interfit F5 reviews

F5 Three-Head Fluorescent Lighting Kit with Boom Arm is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Almost great The stands and light heads are well made and easy to use however the boom clamp needs redesigned to actually hold the weight of the light, it tends to drift down and the higher you put it the more it drifts to the point that the small counter weight is useless. For the price this kit is very good and has worked for our purposes so far but for other jobs that will require us to go higher with the height we may have to seek other alternatives. If the the clamp were better made this kit would be a steal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value I purchased these lights for an in home studio with a green screen. I looked around and @ had cheaper sets but the reviews were not so positive. I then saw these at B&H and the reviews were pretty good. When the lights came in, my son and i put them together in less than 20 minutes. The instructions were okay but the quality is very good considering the price. The lights are great and so bright. You can control the brightness with 3 separate sites on the rear of each light. The soft boxes were good quality and easy to assemble. We did a video taping for over an hour and the great thing about these lights is they do not get hot. A great buy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mislead by B&H Expert Before purchase I chatted with someone at B&H. My current soft boxes collapse like umbrellas once the bulbs are removed. A very ingenious design. My concern on the Interfit F5 kit were the rods and how the soft boxes collapsed. I was told the rods were permanently attached to the soft boxes, so I ordered the kit. After delivery, I opened the kit to inspect it. The rods were not attached as I was told they were. While is not a deal breaker and I do plan to keep the kit, am very surprised to have been misinformed. Why does this matter to me? The majority of my work is on location. The design of the rods in this kit will add to my setup and breakdown time and increase the possibility of leaving a rod behind. Again... not a huge deal, but worth other prospective buyers to be aware of.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost Perfect I've used this kit for a commercial studio shoot (video) and everything went very smoothly. Like others have mentioned the grip head for the boom is plastic and can't hold too much weight which was a little unnerving when we utilized it for a product shot. When tightening, it feels like it will snap. I will be buying a different grip head to use with it. Other than that it's bright and with Fluorescent lighting you don't have to worry about overloading a circuit which I like. You can plug all three lights into one circuit and not worry about it. It also offers two layers of diffusion in each soft box which is nice to have. It is definitely worth the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Affordable Kit I was very nervous to order this kit because I could only find two reviews of it. I am ordering more expensive camera equipment for my D800 and needed to save money on my lighting system. I was pleasantly surprised when this kit arrived! The kit is very bright. The boom stand is much more sturdy than I thought it would be given reviews and all the stands are thicker/more durable than I expected. The base of the boom stand is wider than the base of the other two stands for increased stability. It's perfect for studio shooting. Two empty bags attach to the boom stand's arm opposite the light box. I put rocks in these bags to counterbalance the weight of the soft box. I would NOT buy this kit if you need to extend the boom to its highest height (which is almost two stories tall and gets a bit precarious) and need to move locations often. This kit should be set up and left up. Although reasonably durable, some of the parts of this kit are made of plastic. The plastic they use is high quality and thick/durable, but it's not made of metal. I'm sure you could take this apart and put it back together several times and it would be fine but to me its seems that would be a headache. The air cushions inside the stands are great. It prevents them from slamming down. You can only rotate the soft box heads down and up on a vertical plane. You have to make the decision to orient the soft box vertically or horizontally when you put the soft box on. If you want to change the orientation you have to take apart the whole soft box. I did have my boyfriend help me construct the kit. I wasn't strong enough to extend one of the stands that was sticky by myself. I felt like this kit was a great deal given that I got 3 stands (boom included), 15 lights, two softbox choices, and its much more durable than I expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value I needed a lighting set for apparel photos with full length mannequins. This set does the job of lighting my subject & background quite well. With 3 good sized soft boxes I only need to add a smaller 4th light to help with lighting the lower portion of the subject. I set out to achieve professional looking photos & ended up fairly close to that. I'm not a professional but these lights have gotten me much closer to the even tones I was looking for. I am working in a small space (about 15'x15' w/ 9' ceiling, & these lights are about as big as I could work with. Happy customer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good buy I bought the Interfit F5 3 head fluorescent lighting kit with boom armto use for some video promotional productions. The two main nightstands work well and are sturdy. The light stand with boom arm is effective and allows lighting to be much closer to the subject. Assembly of the light 'boxes' (material with thin metal pins that wrap around the lights)is a bit tedious but gets easier by the third time it is assembled. I would give this five stars if it was easier to assemble the light boxes.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beautiful light but... The light that this et gives off is perfect for soft light shots but unfortunately there were some issue with them and i had to return them. First off the head for the boom arm doesn't adjust correctly and the screw stripped very easily. Second of all there seemed to be an issue with one of the lightbulb connection, i could hear it short circuit and two of the five lights turned off, it came back on after a while but it would be very inconvenient if it happened during a shoot. Third of all the power cable to the lights adjust right but are also kind of loose and could come off very easily.
