Included with the camera body is the M.ZUIKO Digital 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R standard zoom lens, which provides a 28-84mm equivalent focal length range. It features quiet autofocus and zooming operation to benefit recording movies and also incorporates three aspherical elements to reduce aberrations and produce high image sharpness and clarity.

16 MP Live MOS Sensor and TruePic VI Image Processor

The 16 megapixel Live MOS sensor and TruePic VI image processor work together to enable up to 8 fps continuous shooting, sensitivity from ISO 100-25600, and full HD 1080i video recording.

In-Camera 3-Axis Image Stabilization

In-body VCM (Voice Coil Motor) image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake with any lens in use and compensates for camera movements that become especially noticeable when making telephoto shots, macro imagery, and long exposures. Furthermore, this unique image stabilization system works across three axes, versus the conventional two axes, and compensates for vertical and horizontal shifts (yaw and pitch) as well as camera shake along the optical axis (roll). This range of detected movements serves to benefit traditional still image shooting as well as movie recording and working with moving subjects more effectively.

FAST Autofocus System

A contrast-detection focusing method employs 35 AF points to quickly and accurately acquire focus. Aptly named, FAST (Frequency Acceleration Sensor Technology) is able to home in on subjects, and both Face and Eye Detect settings can be used to base focusing priority on recognizable subjects.

M.ZUIKO Digital 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R Lens

Included with the E-PL6 is the versatile M.ZUIKO Digital 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R zoom lens, which provides a 28-84mm equivalent focal length range. Three aspherical elements have been incorporated into the lens' design to help reduce chromatic aberration throughout the zoom range and also contribute to high image sharpness and clarity. The lens is designated as MSC (Movie & Still Compatible), making it ideal for video recording due to its quick and near-silent focusing performance.

Other Camera Features

  • The compact body design features a large 3.0" 614k-dot touchscreen LCD monitor that tilts 180° for taking selfies as well working from low angles.
  • A Short Release Time Lag mode helps to reduce shutter lag for faster shooting response to benefit working with moving subjects.
  • Interval shooting enables the creation of time-lapse imagery and can be configured to record 1-99 shots with 1 second to 24 hour intervals.
  • An electronic level gauge helps to ensure consistently level horizons and plumb verticals.
  • The included FL-LM1 external flash can be used for additional illumination when working in difficult lighting conditions.
  • A range of 12 Art Filters and Effects can be used to creatively enhance the look of your imagery in-camera.

Olympus E-PL6 Reviews

Good while it lasted. Shutter jammed

It was good camera while it lasted. Loved the compactness and simple menu controls. The pictures were great out of the camera. Unfortunately, the shutter jammed suddenly after less than 2 yrs of gentle use. Considering the purchase price I could not justify the repair costs. I wish Olympus had better QC. Fun camera alas it was short-lived.

Little jam for everyday use camera.

I bought this camera last year to compliment my OM-D E-M1 Olympus camera. I paired it with 14-42mm EZ collapsible lens, later I got myself a second hand VF-2 EVF for bright days. I carry both items in a small pouch in my back pack. Honestly, I use it much often than my E-M1 because of the simpler reasons: the picture quality is the same, but the weight and dimensions are much smaller. So, it's my go to camera now and I carry it with me all the time. I'm extremely happy with it and recommend it to everybody who is looking for every day use little camera.

its under warranty, but Olympus charges $ to ship it for repair.Originally I wrote good review of this camera, I was excited to use it with my E-p5, shooting events... my ep5 is still working great since 2014,.I will probably get another ep5, since I'm committed with my compliment of M.Zuiko lenses...

I really like the smaller size. The strength of the lens could be better though. It was recommended to me by a photographer in Heathrow airport

A Reliable Camera

First of all, this is a reliable and good entry into a mirrorless system without breaking the bank. In fact, my very first digital was an Olympus-the C-2500L from over ten years ago, so I know I'm getting a quality make. I wanted a camera that was light and unobtrusive-especially for street photography. I also wanted a camera that I can use for my main body of work: fine art. However, I did want something that I can expand on later down the road. I'm still learning the menus as someone who grew up on film cameras and traditional digital cameras; and it's still a camera to get used to. However, I am pleased with it and I look forward to expanding its capabilities down the road. B&H (as always) had the best deal with the two lens kit. This is from someone who has been a customer since their 17th Street days. The 14-42mm is a solid main lens that covers most of my shooting needs. The 40-150 can be my distant lens; or for portrait work. My only real niggles is that there's no viewfinder. However, after working with point and shoots, I'm kind of used to it. Also, the menus can be overwhelming. Overall, this is a camera worth checking out if you're looking for a solid entry into the mirrorless system that won't break the bank; and that is expandable.

question

How big of a step up is the EPL7 compared to this camera? Is there a noticeable difference in quality?
Asked by: Anonymous
I don't know what camera you're comparing it with, but even a good quality snap and shoot will not produce photos as good as the EPL7, or with the flexibility of the lenses (don't forget that 14-42 is 28 to 84 in a regular 35mm and 40=150 is equivalent to 80-300...pretty good. The range of menu preference is also superior.
