USB 3.1 Gen 1 High-Speed Media Reader is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 103.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply Spectacular Media Card Reader! Simply put, this is a spectacular, fast, and sleek USB 3.0 media card reader that works perfectly with Macs. Starting off with the packaging, it initially appeared to be that annoying molded plastic type that takes you a pair of scissors, a few knives, and a trip to the hospital to open. Surprisingly, it was very easy to open, and didn't even require scissors! Simply pull apart the sides, and voila! Inside, you get the card reader itself, along with a very nice USB 3.0 cable. I actually bought Kingston's FCR-HS3 version of this same card reader a few years ago, and it included an extremely thick and short USB 3.0 cable. Technology has definitely improved since then, and I love this new, thinner and longer cable. Moving to the card reader itself, it's sleek and straight to the point. On the top, there is a Kingston logo with a red LED illuminating it. At the back, you get the USB 3.0 connector to hook up to your computer. On the front, there's connections for a SD card, CF card, microSD, as well as an MS/DUO card. The beauty of this reader is that you could actually have all different types plugged in at once, and your computer recognizes them all! In Mac OSX 10.11 running on my Mid 2015 MacBook Pro Retina 15, they just pop up in finder as different connected drives. That's amazing for me, as often I am shooting sports games for a university. Timeliness is paramount, and I download photos at halftime as well as after the game. In order to cull, edit, and post as fast as possible, I need to have the photos download as fast as possible. As a little background on me, I own a Nikon D810 and shoot with both CF and SD cards in combination with a Canon 5D Mark III and 6D. I know it's a weird combination, but I have access to a gear cabinet that only owns Canon gear. In short, I have CF and SD cards that need to download extremely quickly, and I can do that at the same time with this reader! So, this is an awesome media card reader. I loved my first one so much, I got a second one! I look forward to utilizing USB 3.0's fast download speeds, and this reader's ability to download both CF and SD cards to save valuable editing time!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from simple and brilliant work. I just got it today. Before I purchased the reader, I have read several articles about which is the best reader with reasonable price. I was considering between kingston and lexar but chose kingston. There is no regret with my choice. After I got mine, I immediately used it to move photos from my camera to my macbook. some people and articles mentioned that they had problem when they inserted the card into a slot. I had no problem at all. The insertion was smooth, there was nothing wrong with it. It is simple and brilliant working reader, however, there is one downside. I wish it has a cap to protect slots from dusts. Of course, I will put it in the camera bag, but still wish the cap. Overall, it is a solid and fast reader!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great! Time will tell, but so far it works great. I use it on my Mac Pro 2014. The USB 3.0 transfer rate is good. I use it for photos and high bit-rate video transfer. I thought all media readers were alike. Not true. My Lexar card reader was not reliable and had corrupted some important files on transfer. The good news is that the files on my SD card were still ok and the Kingston reader was able to transfer them quickly and accurately to my Mac without issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well made The Large red light on the top is useful to make certain the card is being read. Plugged into a 3.0 port it is very fast. The fairly long cable that comes with it is helpful in plugging into the back of a desktop computer and still having enough cable to place it at the front on the top.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A reasonably priced, well-made, card reader to consider I purchased the Kingston USB 3.0 High-Speed Media Reader in order to resurrect an older digital camera that uses Type I Compact Flash cards for storage. My current computer doesn't have a reader for this sort of card so I went looking for an external device. I'm a big fan of Kingston memory products (USB sticks) so I was attracted to this offering by the company. It's nicely compact to fit on top of my desktop machine and comes with a proprietary USB cable (the card reader end has a 'notch' in it to fit this device only). So far, it has done the job admirably and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to users who are looking for a reasonably priced, very well made, piece of hardware. No drivers needed, it is plug and play into any USB port though if you can take advantage of its USB 3.0 speeds all the better. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that you will need to use some care and caution when inserting a Type I or II compact flash card because of all the interface pins in the reader. I think this caution would be a reasonable assumption for any compact flash card reader so it is worth pointing out that it insertion must be done carefully to ensure no damage to the pins in the reader. I hold the reader in my hand to guide the card in and get a satisfying 'fit'. I haven't had an opportunity to use the other three card reader types (SDHC/SDXC; micro SDHC/SDXC; and MS/DUO) but I assume their transfer rates and similar in speed and quality of image to the compact flash reader.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't know about everything else, but... I had an all-in-one card reader that seemed well built and on the second attempt to copy from a CF memory card, it died, completely. As an aspiring professional photographer I would need a similar device to copy the files to my computer, so after checking on the B&H app different options I chose this one, I have seen the Kingston brand around for more than ten years, why not give it a try. Well, so far so good, I chose the right one, excellent price and quality. I also checked that all the technical specifications would apply to my actual cards, it did. No complaints at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works perfectly... I use this to read huge video and audio files from CF and SDXC cards for video editing. It works flawlessly and the files transfer very quickly. It's also rather attractive, so it looks nice on your desk. Kingston makes excellent products.
