    Crown Audio XLS2502 reviews

XLS 2502 Stereo Power Amplifier (775W at 4 Ohm) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value in a Powerful Amp from Crown I am using this in a home theater system. It is powerful and clear, without harshness in the sound that I might expect from a powerful amplifier in this price range. It has many convenient features for both pro audio and home systems (has both binding posts and Speakon outputs, both XLR and RCA inputs with switchable input sensitivity for pro and consumer level sources). Although there is a fan, I don't hear it come on during a loud 2 to 3 hour movie. In fact, the amp runs really cool-after a 2 hour movie, the metal chassis is still cool to the touch. As for reliability, I have only had this amp a week but.. I have 3 of the previous generation of these (XLS 2500) in my church and they have been solid and reliable for the year we've had them. Pros: Sound quality, versatility for both Pro and Consumer, Runs cool and quiet, Powerful, excellent Value. Cons: The remote power trigger touted by the manufacturer (and resellers) is not the typical 12 volt 3.5 mm mini jack system used in the typical home theater setup. In fact, the amp doesn't trigger on with a voltage source at all, instead the amp goes to sleep when two pins of an aux connector are connected together. This means that it is not a simple matter of finding an adapter to convert a 3.5 mm mini plug to a different connector. For now, I had to devise my own relay circuit. Perhaps Crown (or someone) will someday make such a device.
