Sky-Watcher 10" f/3.94 Quattro Imaging Newtonian Telescope (OTA Only)
Key Features
  • 10" / 254mm Aperture
  • 1000mm Focal Length
  • f/3.94 Focal Ratio Optimized for Imaging
  • Highly Reflective Borosilicate Mirrors
Sky-Watcher's 10" f/3.94 Quattro Imaging Newtonian Telescope has been specifically engineered for astrophotography and astro-imaging performance. Its 1000mm focal length has been shortened to produce a fast f/3.94 focal ratio which helps to reduce the exposure times required for capturing detailed images of the Moon, planets, and deep-sky objects. To further help boost its performance are borosilicate mirrors which have a low coefficient of thermal expansion to reduce the effects of expansion/contraction due to temperature fluctuation. This helps limit distortion that can occur when moving the OTA from indoors to outdoors and limiting the scope's ability to resolve details. The entire optical system is fully multicoated to increase the reflectivity of all surfaces to produce brighter and sharper images.

Sky-Watcher Quattro Overview

For imaging and visual use, the ability to achieve tack-sharp focus is critical, so Sky-Watcher outfitted the Quattro with a large Crayford-style focuser. This design uses a steel rod held tightly against the focus tube under tension. Using this toothless friction system eliminates backlash and enables ultra-fine precision focusing. A large coarse-focus wheel quickly brings subjects into rough focus, and then the 10:1 fine-focus allows the user to precisely focus it without the risk of losing it as soon as the knob is released. Having the ability to use larger 2" accessories and eyepieces provides an immersive experience during observation sessions and the ability to use larger sensors for capturing images, and a reducer adapter is included if you want to use the more common 1.25" eyepieces.

The Quattro is offered here without a mount or tripod for users that have a solid observation platform. Its cradle ring assembly clamps over the OTA and allows the OTA to be positioned for balancing when mounted, the eyepiece to be precisely placed for more comfortable observations, and the entire rig to be adjusted to avoid interference with other equipment and accessories. A Vixen-style dovetail plate on the bottom of the cradle ring assembly makes this OTA compatible with any Vixen-style saddle.

Sky-Watcher 10 F/3.94 Quattro

Sky-watcher needs to step up some quality control on some of their products! Since this scope is listed as an Imaging telescope, it needs to not let in stray light around the focuser in multiple places. The problem is solved easily by filling the gaps with white latex spackle that can be removed at any point. It is a fast telescope and will work for astrophotography. I shot the Bubble nebula over two nights in One-Shot-Color and it turned out pretty well. Narrow band is better for this target. Scope does collimate rather easily with a laser collimator! Not a bad buy for the money!

It's fantastic but cheaply built

I have been using this scope for 6 months and it's really nice but I had to change the focuser to make use of it. I would also recommend it if it were at its original price of $845 but it's shocking how much it has increased to. I'd rather save up and buy a better quality scope with that amount of money instead.
