Panasonic AG-DVX200 overview

  • 1Description

The Panasonic AG-DVX200 4K Camcorder with Four-Thirds Sensor and Integrated Zoom Lens brings professional features and familiar camcorder ergonomics to the Micro Four Thirds sensor format. It features a single MOS sensor with 4K resolution that captures up to 12 stops of dynamic range with Panasonic's V-Log L gamma curve. The camcorder supports DCI 4K production at 24 fps, UHD 4K at up to 60 fps, and HD at up to 120 fps, providing you with a camcorder that is at home in a variety of production environments.

Recording 4K to MP4 or MOV and offering AVCHD recording of 1920 x 1080 HD video, your footage can be easily integrated into most modern post-production workflows. The integrated 13x Leica zoom lens features three lens rings that give you manual control over focus, zoom, and iris. The camera records to SD cards and requires U3 speed class cards to record 4K video. The camcorder features timecode in/out, a 3G-SDI output for HD video, and an HDMI connector that provides 4K output.

The integrated LEICA DICOMAR lens features a 13x zoom range, which when shooting DCI 4K is equivalent to a 29.5 to 384.9mm lens on a 35mm camera. The lens has individual lens control rings built into the lens for focus, zoom, and iris, as well as a power zoom rocker.
Includes a five-axis Hybrid Image Stabilizer and 4x correction-area Image Stabilizer that produces clear images without blurring, and a micro-drive focus unit that improves focus speed, tracking and capture performance, facilitating 4K focusing and shallow focus shooting.
The V-Log L gamma curve allows you to capture 12 stops of dynamic range. Capturing in V-Log L will produce a flatter looking image that provides more latitude for post color correction. The V-Log assist function allows you to adjust the look of your video on the output to a more normal looking image without affecting the recorded footage.
The dual SD card slots allow you to record in relay, backup, and simultaneous modes. Relay allows you to swap a full card out for an empty card so you can record virtually endlessly. The backup mode allows you to record continuously on one card, while you start and stop recording on the other card. Simultaneous record duplicates your recording on both cards, and dual codec recording allows you to record using a different codec to each card, so you can record 4K on one card and HD on the other. Please note that dual codec recording is not available when recording DCI 4K or UHD 60p.

Note: Recording 4K video requires a U3 class card.

    Panasonic AG-DVX200 reviews

AG-DVX200 4K Camcorder with Four Thirds Sensor and Integrated Zoom Lens is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 82.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic if you read instructions This is one of the best looking cameras I've ever used, but unless you read the manual and really understand video, you may get lost. Those who simply want to grab the camera out of the box and begin shooting will have trouble. Panasonic has built in a lot of professional engineering features that make the 4K picture one of the best on the market. This is not a low-end point and shoot camera - it is intended for professionals. But when set up properly, you and your clients will be thrilled with the results. And remember, if you are producing documentaries - the story is still king. Most of your viewers don't count pixels ... the will be captured by your story.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth Every Penny of Mine Does what I need a run and gun camera to do! I'm glad they finally made a 4K camera modeled after the dvx100. Love that you have different recording options available and the variable frame rate feature up to 120fps. You can get some nice slow motion in this camera. The footage also matches my GH4, so I don't have to do any extra color grading to match between the two. Only small critique I have is the lens has a variable f stop, so the iris closes as you shoot more telephoto. I knew that before buying so it wasn't too big of an issue. Make sure get the latest firmware updates as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Its great! I still have its earlier SD predecessor and couldn't wait to get hold of this one when I heard it was coming out. I've had it since late 2015, are still learning new aspects of how to work with her and love the features. Now that Premiere Pro has great proxy files for editing I can finally make full potential of the 4K capabilities and are loving the results. It is a very user friendly camera for my work which is mainly corporate and promotional videos. Panasonic have great online training videos giving you a full run down of all its features which is really useful, as there are so many features to utilise. I really look forward to using this camera for a long time. She just rocks!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice camera I haven't had much time to play around with it but it seems to be built well. Takes a nice picture. The logarithmic shooting works well and gives a lot of latitude. The cards whole a lot of video so if you run and gun you can shoot a lot before you run out of room, unlike some other cameras that shoot a nice rob picture but take up a ton of space. Has built-in and D which is great. A good run and gun camera if you're shooting on the fly plus it doesn't weigh a lot.does have a lot of settings so you may want to know what you're doing if you choose this camera. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Enjoying The DVX200 I've had the camera for nearly two weeks and have to say its a great run-n-gun camera for what I do. This is going to be a great camera for documentary and ENG work. I shoot mostly in manual model for everything, but the auto focus works good for those times you need. Panasonic just released a new firmware update for the camera and it cleans some of the fine noise in the shadows in lower light situations. I shoot only in V-Log for the best DR. Internal 8-bit 4K looks really good, but I mostly shoot in 10-bit 422 mode via HDMI paired with the new Atomos Ninja Assassin 4K recorder. Love the image.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So I Finally Bought It, And I Love It! I had posted a review of my 90 minutes of experience in the store with this camera and I was impressed. I decided to give it a go and finally bought it after a lot of thought and consideration. I have to admit this camera has its own flaws. But hey, no camera is perfect. You're getting more than your moneys' worth with this camera. CONS It's a bit heavy low light performance could be better The menu, settings, and multiple options could take you to a lot of time to get used to it. PROS Image quality is outstanding Cinema 4K meets DCI specifications (all up to 2.39:1) UHD @ 60fps Variable frame rates OIS Well built To anyone who feels this camera is incomplete, please download Barry Green's e-book (it's free). It is a complete life saver, and practice; because this camera will take a lot of practice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Camera! This is by far, the most advanced fixed lens camcorder in the market as of today. With such a huge menu and amazing image quality, this is a professionals' dream tool. I've had this for about 2 months now and I'm still learning more and more about this camera. The more I learn, the better I get while operating it. The best part which suits my needs is that this camera meets with the DCI specifications. I can choose from various aspect ratios up to 2.39:1. The V-log L is what makes this even more amazing because you can play around in post to get the best possible image out of your movie/video. The only downside for me is that I find it a bit heavy for handheld use. Other than that, it's perfect. Built quality is excellent, and at $4200.00, every penny is worth it!
