Add a flash to any Ikelite compact or DSLR camera housing featuring their proprietary TTL electrical bulkhead, thanks to this DS160 Strobe Kit. The package bundles the DS160 strobe, coiled Ikelite-to-Ikelite 5-pin TTL sync cord, 2nd Gen Li-Ion battery, charger, 7" Double Ball Arm Mark II with clamps and mounts, and diffuser.
The TTL/manual DS160 strobe has a 300' depth rating. It features a round flash tube and a custom powder-coated reflector designed to deliver soft, even coverage. The strobe has a power rating of 160 watt-sec and a guide number of 76' at ISO 100. The 90° coverage angle is increased to 100° with the supplied diffuser, which also softens the beam to prevent backscatter, glare, and hard shadows. Additionally, the DS160 is warmer than daylight at a color temperature of 4800K, and will help you correct the blue color cast that occurs beneath the surface by restoring hues that get absorbed. A bright, concentrated LED aiming light works well for focusing or as a night diving aid, and turns off when the strobe is fired to prevent hot spots. TTL flash exposure via sync cord connection, along with the high-capacity battery pack, allows for the high-speed shooting necessary to capture fast-moving subjects like sharks. To shoot with two strobes, you can use the optional TTL Dual Sync Cord. If you opt for manual mode, you can select from 10 power settings in half-stop increments.
The 7.4V Li-Ion battery has a fast recycle time of 1.4 sec and provides over 450 full-power flashes on a single charge. This 2nd-generation lithium-ion pack features improved cell-conditioning technology to keep you on the go and increase the lifetime of the battery. A quick-release toggle system makes quick, easy work of attaching the battery and also virtually ensures that flooding will not occur. The Smart Charger runs on 100-240VAC power for worldwide use, and includes adapter plugs for North America, Europe, the UK, and Australia. It is a 2nd-generation charger and is compatible with 1st-gen li-ion packs, but it will not provide charge termination feedback for 1st-gen packs via the LED indicator.
Ikelite's 7" double ball-jointed arm includes 2 ball clamps that enable attachment to the supplied strobe mount and Ikelite quick-release handle mount. When all parts are assembled together, the overall length of the arm is about 15". Optional extra arm components and clamps can be added for greater length and different lighting angles and positions. The ball mounts/joints measure 1" in diameter, and have a groove and o-ring to prevent slipping for a better hold with less force. The arm and its parts are made from aluminum that has been treated with a hard type III anodized finish for resistance to corrosion.
