Has Tamrac done anything to address the splitting of the plastic pockets?
Yes, the newly improved Tamrac Professional Series: Anvil Slim 11 Backpack (Black) [BH #TAT0210] has been corrected.
Tamrac has provided the following information. Many production cycles ago the plastic was switched from PTU (which yellowed and eventually cracks) to PVC which is a time tested pocketing material used across many industries and bag manufacturers. All Anvil and Stratus bags now (and have for the last year or longer) are made with the clear PVC plastic.

How does the Anvil Slim 11 compare to the Tarmac Expedition 6x in terms of size?
I'm not familiar with the Tamrac Expedition 6x. But all I can say is that the Anvil Slim 11 meets my needs perfectly at this time. I like its durable structure and stitching and its streamlined design. It carries comfortably, with adjustable straps to help distribute weight. I have a Nikon D750, 3 zoom lenses including a 300mm-500mm super telephoto. The bag also has an external strapping system that enables me to carry a travel tripod up to 16 in tall.

Can Anvil 11 hold a D810?
I have a D810, and it fits in this backpack even with a 400mm tele attached. In addition I can carry a 70-200mm zoom, one smaller lens, a flash, and a laptop. Overall Im very pleased with this backpack.

Yes. I pack my D800 along with a 70-300, a 85mm, a 35mm and a 10-24mm, with room to spare.
