WD WDBDTB0120JSL-NESN overview

  • 1Description

The My Book Pro 12TB (2 x 6TB) Two-Bay Thunderbolt 2 RAID Array from WD comes with two WD Black 7200 rpm hard drives that are pre-configured in RAID 0 to deliver a transfer rate up to 435 MB/s. It sports a dual-core Intel Xeon processor and two hot-swappable bays. The drives are formatted in HTFS+ and offer a total capacity of 12TB for your Mac system. You can reformat the drives to use the My Book Pro with a Windows system or configure them into a hardware RAID 1 or JBOD. When configured into RAID 1, you can safely and redundantly store your 4K videos, high-definition images, and 3-D renderings as well as interactive and data-intensive projects on the My Book Pro. To keep up with the fast transfer rates, WD has outfitted it with two Thunderbolt 2 ports, which offer a data bandwidth of 20 Gb/s and the ability to daisy chain up to six devices. Additionally, it includes a micro-B to Type-A USB 3.0 cable that connects to the rear of the My Book Pro to support the two USB 3.0 ports in front, so you can charge and sync smartphones, tablets, and cameras.

The WD My Book Pro 12TB (2 x 6TB) Two-Bay Thunderbolt 2 RAID Array operates using 100-240 VAC at 50-60 Hz. Included with this array is a Thunderbolt 2 cable, a USB 3.0 cable, and a power supply. It is protected by a limited 3-year warranty.

Offers performance with the combination of Thunderbolt 2, WD Black drives, and hardware RAID:
  • Thunderbolt 2 - supports up to 20 Gb/s data-transfer rate; daisy chain up to six additional Thunderbolt devices with no impact on throughput speed
  • WD Black internal 7200 rpm drives - designed for creative professionals, experts, and users with high-performance requirements
  • Hardware RAID - My Book Pro handles RAID processing, so there's no impact on your computer's CPU performance
Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 Connectivity
  • Connect up to six devices in a Thunderbolt daisy-chain for an optimized single-cable workflow with 4K monitors, additional storage devices, and peripherals
  • USB 3.0 compatibility for use with non-Thunderbolt systems
Hardware RAID Options
  • RAID 0 (Default) - stripes your data across both drives for the fastest data transfers and maximum capacity
  • RAID 1 - Mirror your files - automatically saves a copy on each of the drives in the unlikely event of drive failure
  • JBOD - allows your computer to view and use the two drives as separate volumes
Additional Features
Centralize your important files - aggregate all your digital content to open up storage space on your computer
Suitable for backup - protects your files with Apple Time Machine, which provides system-level protection
Storage capacity - with up to 12TB of capacity, you can save and protect all your photos, videos, music, and important documents in one safe place
Easy to set up, easy to use - My Book Pro is pre-formatted for Mac OS X, so it's ready to use right out of the box. The array can also be easily reformatted to NTFS for Windows users
Hardware RAID - because RAID processing is handled by My Book Pro, data bottlenecks are reduced and throughput is improved
WD Drive Utilities - you can manage RAID configurations, run drive diagnostics, and format the drives
User serviceable system - no tools required to replace or upgrade drives

    WD WDBDTB0120JSL-NESN reviews

    My Book Pro 12TB (2 x 6TB) Two-Bay Thunderbolt 2 RAID Array is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Look great, but there are problems I set up my drive as a RAID 1 to mirror the data. The drive works great when the computer is running and I'm working and actively saving data; however, when the computer goes to sleep, the drive dismounts. The only way to get it back onto the desktop is to turn the drive off and on. It mounts and then the fan runs loudly for an hour or more. I'm sure it's not good for the drive to do this and it totally destroys my peace of mind about buying a decent system to store my data. I've emailed WD using there robo-email complaint system, and going on two weeks haven't gotten even a hi, we received your complaint and will be with you shortly response email. WD FAIL!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Video Editor needs new drive I am a freelance video editor. I work with FCPX. My workload has been increasing so I needed a fast hard drive with plenty of space, that wouldn't break the bank. I currently have a 8TB My Book thunderbolt (black magic speed test in attached photo) duo connected to my 2014 macbook pro retina fully loaded. This has been working great but I wanted more speed and space.Once I received the drive it was plug and play with no problems. Very nice build on the drive and it looks great next to my MBP. It has been over a week with no hiccups so far. I would recommend this drive to my friends. See photos for black magic speed test.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from First impressions after 24h Mostly very pleased with this unit, bought to replace / expand from my 6TB MyBook Thunderbolt Duo - only thing I hadn't considered with the design of the MyBook Pro is just that the vents are at the front & back, where on the older Duo the heat would just rise out the top. So the MyBook Pro has a fan, by necessity, which is louder than I expected and (so far) runs pretty much constantly. That said - I'm in Australia in summer, and have been copying files for almost the whole time it's been here, so perhaps the fan will calm down when the air is cooler & I'm not stressing the system so much; it's just something to be aware of, compared to the near-silent operation of the MyBook Duo versions. Other than that, it's well made, super fast, smaller than I thought, and works perfectly straight out of the box (so far)! For a single unit with Thunderbolt speed & this much capacity, I'm not sure it can be beat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you need both speed and capacity, this is a great choice. I am happy with my WD My Book Pro 12 TB Hard Drive Array. I wanted an enclosure with as much storage space as I could get and good speed as well. This enclosure hit both marks. I have it configured in RAID 0, so I have the amazing 12TB for storage. The WD Black drives in the enclosure are the fastest mechcanical drives WD offers, and I am getting the speeds WD advertises for the enclosure. (See photo.)It is fairly quite idle, but a bit loud when reading or writing. I was a little hesitant to order it as the enclosure is set up to work on Macs out of the box, and I am using Windows 10. However, it was fairly easy to get it running in Windows 10 using both USB 3 and Thunderbolt 2. I am using it as a Thunderbolt 2 drive on my HP Z840 and am even able to daisy chain it to a Pegasus 2 M4 Thunderbolt 2 RAID array. The only issue with it is that in Windows 10 the WD Drive Utility only supports configuring the drive via USB 3 and not Thunderbolt, which is not a huge issue.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A good reliable drive but... A good reliable drive but within 30 hours of use it refused to recognize drive 2 in the enclosure. So it's in for service and cost me $30 to send it. I have other WD drives, including another like this. All are solid and reliable. This should have been more carefully tested before it left the factory.
