  • 1Description

The Promise Technology 6TB Pegasus2 R2+ is a Thunderbolt 2 RAID storage array designed for simultaneous streaming, editing, and backup of high-resolution videos and large multimedia files. This storage array's Thunderbolt 2 interface offers high-speed connectivity. The Pegasus2 R2+ stores up to 6TB of data spread across two 3TB 7200 rpm SATA drives. Actual storage capacity will differ according to the RAID configuration. These drives are hot-swappable for easy access and feature RAID 0 and RAID 1 compatibility offering either maximum storage capacity or enhanced data redundancy. You can also take advantage of the integrated media bay that comes pre-populated with a CF/SD card reader, you can also choose from a variety of additional storage options via dedicated pods (sold separately).

The Pegasus2 R2+ storage array has dual Thunderbolt 2 ports, one port for direct system attachment and another port for daisy-chaining up to 6 Thunderbolt 2 devices. This storage is formatted in the HFS+ file system for Mac and is compatible with Time Machine in OS X, which automatically backs up your entire Mac system.

Integrated Media Bay
The integrated media bay comes pre-populated with a CF/SD card reader. This card reader can be removed allowing you to insert a variety of additional storage adapters and drives.
• Pod Options: HDD Pod, SSD Reader Pod, CF/SD Reader Pod
• Highly flexible and mobile data transfer options for on-the-go and on-site projects
• Pods come equipped with a USB 3.0 cable for independent use
• Compact, quiet, and cool
Thunderbolt 2
The Pegasus2's Thunderbolt 2 interface is sufficient for handling and accelerating 3D or 4K (UHD) workflows. Thunderbolt 2 uses the same cable as the previous generation but has double the available bandwidth for a maximum throughput of 20 Gb/s.
4K Workflows
The bandwidth of Thunderbolt 2 and the Pegasus2 is designed to give professionals the ability to edit and view live 4K streams while backing up the same file to a single or daisy-chained Pegasus2 storage array system.

    Promise Technology R2+ reviews

    6TB Pegasus2 R2+ Thunderbolt 2 RAID Storage Array is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent all-in-one external hard right solution The best thing about it is the SSD card reader in the top slot which can be removed and replaced by a memory card reader (I have both). At the moment I have the SSD reader card installed which I use for Time Machine backup on my iMac. When I need to listen to my Hi Def music collection I take out the backup SSD and insert the SSD with music on it. The regular hard drives are configured as a raid one and partitioned into 4 TB and 2 TB which serves as iTunes media and carbon copy cloner backup respectively. I'm not sure about other readers/consumers but for me it is an accident configuration and works just as well. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pegasus is the truth! I am very pleased so far. My wife and I use the R2+ on the 5K iMac for video and photo editing. In terms of speed it is great. More specifically, I have edited several projects shot on a GH4 in 4k over the last couple weeks and let's just say, you forget that you are editing off an external drive, thanks to RAID 0. The Thunderbolt 2 is cool, but may be less necessary than you would think. Most hard drives don't come anywhere close to reaching the transfer limits of Thunderbolt 2 or USB 3, but I guess it makes it future proof which I can appreciate!I am also looking forward to receiving the rebate 1TB drive that I will use in the auxiliary bay. According to Pegasus, this will allow you to use it in a RAID 5 configuration. Which adds a little speed to an already fast drive, as well as added security. Google raid 5 and you'll know what I mean.Also...I'm sure no one else will do this, but I somehow overlooked that the R2+ comes standard with a SD/CF card reader!!! I ordered an extra card reader not realizing this, but B&H Photo made it a very easy process to return with no hassle:)The only thing negative for me was the driver that comes pre-loaded with it wasn't compatible with the latest version of El Capitan(as of 1-10-16). However, you can easily download the latest driver for free from the Download Center. Here is a link. http://www.promise.com/Support/downloadcenterIn conclusion, I am very satisfied with the R2+ and will likely upgrade to a larger Pegasus2 when our business demands it. Hopefully you made it through this review:)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fast and furious Using is with the 2015 yr end 5k imac for some 4k video editing, imac only has 256 ssd so every file is rested inside this humble beast. So far so good, no time to bench read write speed, only processed some 4k footage from iphone 6s plus and go pro 4k, smooth as butter. hoping the manufacture 1tb gift is going to arrive soon, and if possible in the future to swap in larger drives. lack a star due to noise, vs my lacie 2big 3tb from 2 years ago.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Promise Technology I bought a Pegasus2 R2+ on a peer's recommendation and my own research. Using it to house my growing photo library. I have it configured as RAID 1 for backup/redundancy. Easy to add to my system, Dashboard software easy to navigate and use, Build quality is excellent. Only issue I ran into setting up was I needed a newer version of Dashboard software than it shipped with to install on OS X 10.11.4 - I spoke with Promise tech support. They were refreshingly knowledgeable; actually familiar with the equipment rather than regurgitating a wiki. They got me what I needed to get going instantly. The unit includes an SD + CF card reader module that adds functionality to its desktop footprint. Easy days to make longterm evaluation but initial impressions and experience flawless. A great companion to my LR workflow and storage needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Second Pegasus I use this product on my Mac to do Time machine backups. I had a Glyph before which failed one day. I have had a few Glyphs over the years and have had hard drive failures on at least 2 of the 3 that i have. The Glyphs were connected via Firewire 800. I decided to move into Thunderbolt connections as well as just changing up manufacturers since I have a feeling I will have more glyph drive failures. Anyway, i have been happy so far (knock on wood) but time will tell how long the drives last before they need to be replaced. What i do like about the pegasus is that i can easily pop a drive out and replace if i need to. this is my second pegasus...The other Pegagus is a 4 drive configuration and i have each drive as its own partition. There are other configurations (such as Raid) that I can select which i like....its flexible like that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pegasus 2 R2 I recently decided to get back into my photographic hobby. After googling the issue of proper raw photo storage, I decided to order this device to store and backup my raw photos, Aurora HDR and Jpeg files. So far it has been a dream. With the added SD slot, it provides all the storage and backup needs I have. It runs very quietly, turns off when my computer is asleep, and the Thunderbolt transfer rate is awesome. Highly recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It serves it's purpose but EXPENSIVE Bought this because it was the cheapest of the Promise RAID appliances, I was previously using a PC with 6TB of mirrored RAID so thought I needed this. It's decent, my only complaint is that the fans are a bit loud, I have it on a shelf under my iMac and I feel like I'm running a PC again. That said if you need a lot of storage this is a good answer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plug and Play I purchased this 6TB Pegasus2 to provide extra video editing space for my Mac Pro. It does just what I wanted. Fast and reliable. Out of the Box, plug in and GO! No setup time, and flexible to hook up with both Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 to share files.
