Vello BG-F1 overview

  • 1Description

The Battery Grip from Vello is made exclusively for the Fujifilm X-T1 mirrorless digital camera. It holds one NP-W126 lithium-ion battery, effectively doubling your shooting time, and provides a comfortable grip when shooting in portrait orientation.

The grip has an alternate shutter release button to facilitate shooting when held vertically with a lock to prevent accidental release. In addition, the grip has extra AE-L, AF-L, and FA buttons, as well as front and rear command dials. It is designed with an anti-slip rubber grip and firm curvature to further improve handling. A tripod socket is included as is a holder for the camera's contact cover.

    Vello BG-F1 reviews

BG-F1 Battery Grip for Fujifilm X-T1 is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Feel! Alright I had to write this because there is so little info online about this grip and I want others to know my experience... I have had it about 10 days now and I am VERY particular. I almost always go OEM in every case but I took a shot on this and so far I am very happy! I don't always write reviews but I had to pass this on to anyone on the fence about it. So far excellent! I have no affiliation with Vello and am not even endorsing any of their other products. This is purely for other users that need a grip at a better price to get some additional info. The first thing I noticed out of the box is the feel of the rubber on the grip is excellent! I have tried other third-party grips (I shoot a lot of portrait and either always go pro body or with grip) and many have felt cheap. Not here! There is no give in the rubber or the plastic of the grip. It is very firm and feels solid. Second are the dials and buttons. All excellent! Now, I have tried the Fuji and IT IS BETTER but short of a slight more plastic feel to the shutter release, they are all excellent and the shutter release is not bad by any means just not the same is the OEM. It actually feels good if you think about saving around two thirds the original price of the OEM. The battery compartment is solid with a nice click fitting the battery and seals nice with the door. It is a bit odd that they labeled the buttons in the horizontal orientation, different than Fuji but it actually looks good when sitting in the landscape position. My next concern was the fit to the tripod mount. The guides are plastic and that concerned me as well. But this seems to be a non-issue mostly because the spot where the electronics connect to the bottom is raised as well and seems to help it from pivoting. It feels quite solid. I mostly use it to balance out larger lenses like the 50-140 or even the 56. Feels great so far! Now, there is one caveat and that is its not being weather sealed. So, do I think this is important YES. Do, I think it is a deal breaker NO. The only time I see an issue are the days I have to shoot a professional project that must be done rain or shine in which case I will probably bring the D800 and weather sealed lenses anyway. But I will admit I am still considering the Fuji grip for just this reason. That said for now, in day to day use, this is more than good enough for everything else! About the only complaint I have is the spot for the strap on the bottom or the bottom tripod mount. I don't know that I trust them. I have no reason not to but it makes me a bit nervous. But I can live with that since I shot mostly handheld and I think the tripod mount will be fine with a lighter lens or I will mount to the foot on the 50-140. I really hope this helps someone out there that needs a good grip but doesn't want to pay the excessive premium for the OEM. It is GREAT!! I highly recommend it and I am VERY picky about my gear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great alternative for the price!!!! Let's face it....for the price, this is just awesome!!! I bought it before a wedding, and I have been using it since then.. It works perfectly, without any issues!! Easy to install, and no problem installing the plate on it for my spiderPro holster belt.. Concerning another review made about this product....YES, it might break if you drop it.....but I also dropped my Iphone one day, and it broke :) ;) I really recommend that product...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from HUNK O' JUNK Just bite the bullet and get the real thing. This one broke the first time it took a little fall. It's constructed of very thin cheap plastic. The nubs that fit into the camera are the same cheap plastic, whereas the Fujifilm grip has strong metal nubs. Now I wasted money on this one and I have to buy a new Fujifilm brand grip. Not weather sealed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Money Saver I have a large hand and the main reason I purchased it was extend the grip area of the body. It did the job and allowed me to use a hand strap as well. The addition shoot time/frames between battery changes was sweet. It was a lot less expensive than the manufacturers unit and that is NICE!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value, works well. I bought this battery grip for the same reason most people do, better grip, and longer shooting time before changing batteries. I'm used to shooting with a DSLR, so the grip makes the smaller camera feel more normal for me without adding a lot of weight. So far it works fine, all the buttons and dials work as they should. I only gave it 4 stars because 5 would imply that it's as good as the Fujifilm version, when it's probably not.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would recomend this product to anyone I have found the Vello battery grip for the Fujifilm X-T1 to be a great addition to the X-T1, all the functions work fine with the camera and it a great value for the price. I have purchased other Vello products and I find them to be of excellent quality and I would recommend their products to any interested buyer.
