Rycote 037340 Overview

The Rycote Universal Shotgun Mount for Cameras and Boom Poles is designed for use with either a DSLR camera shoe or a boom pole. The unit's duo-lyre cradle will hold your microphone and provide isolation against handling noise, low frequency rumble, and vibrations from camera motors or from the boom pole.

The microphone clip will accept 0.75 to 1.34" (19 to 34 mm) diameter microphones with a one size fits all clip design and non-slip grip treatment.

The 3/8" shoe is machined from solid brass for ultimate durability and has an integral 1/4" tap. The cable clamp assures proper cable management for additional isolation. The brass shoe adapter can be removed for conversion to boom pole use. All types of push-on windscreens such as a classic-softie, super-softie, BBG, and standard foam windscreens.

Poor Design and Support

Ordinarily, it would be a perfectly fine shock mount. It does, as per its name, absorb shock quite well, just like any Rycote product. But the tightening bolt isn't recessed, allowing it to turn somewhat freely and prevent any actual tightening. You'd have to get a wrench to hold the bolt steady in order to actually tighten it. It generally holds up, but under any significant force or pressure, the mic will flop over. I've owned two of these, and both have done it. I'd rather spend $80 to $100 for a legitimate product than waste $50 on something that doesn't work.

I ordered this, THEN read the reviews and though to myself, Oh no! I bought a dud! I received it today and my initial feeling is that this is a well made mic shock mount. It does not seem flimsy or weak at all and I do not get the impression the plastic stress points will crack or fail. Treat this piece of equipment with care and it should give you years of good service. So far I have no regrets with this purchase.

It is a compatible mount for the Sennheiser MKE 600 shotgun microphone and includes a shoe mount as well as a boompole adapter.

How bad is the locking mechanism of this shockmount? (some users say it doesn't lock well) Can you do something to solve this?

Some users have mentioned having issues with the locking mechanism on the Rycote Universal Shotgun Mount for Cameras and Boom Poles. Perhaps you may want to try a different universal shockmount for a shotgun microphone. We have the Auray DUSM-1 Universal Shockmount for Camera Shoes and Boompoles (B&H # AUDUSM1), which has a 3/8" female thread on the bottom of the shoe mount. A 5/8" thread adapter like the Auray AD-5838-B 5/8"-27 Female to 3/8"-16 Male Mic Stand Adapter (B&H # AUAD5838B) can be added to attach it to a mic stand.

I am hoping to use this to mount a microphone to ...

I am hoping to use this to mount a microphone to a SmallRig cage. Is there a tap for this that is 3/8" on both ends, so that I can screw it into the 3/8" thread holes on the cage?

The Rycote Universal Shotgun Mount for Cameras and Boom Poles has a 1/4" female thread on the bottom and the included shoe mount adapter has a 1/4" male thread on one side and a 3/8" female thread of the bottom of the shoe. To attach the shock mount to a 3/8" female thread on your SmallRig cage, you can either use a dual male thread adapter like the Impact 3/8"-16 and 1/4"-20 Adapter Spigot (B&H # IMCA112) with the native thread on the shock mount or you can use the Impact 3/8" to 3/8" Adapter Spigot (B&H # IMCA115) to use the female thread on the shoe mount adapter.
