The Suspension Medium ORTF (MZL) from Rycote is a mounting bar designed to keep microphones at the correct spacing and angle for ORTF stereo recordings. It can be used in several environments in applications for films, broadcast TV, wildlife sound recordings, and more.
The Suspension Medium ORTF (MZL) is suitable for shotgun microphones from 8.3" to 16" in length and has a mic diameter ranging from 0.75 to 0.98". In addition, it is suitable for a matched pair of Sennheiser MKH 8020/40/50 (sold separately) in ORTF stereo configuration, and will fit in an AE windshield (sold separately). The 5-pin XLRM output Connbox uses detachable Binder cables, with a 5.1" tail and MZL (XLR) connectors.
ORTF stereo recording is defined as using a stereo pair of microphones with the capsules spaced 6.7" (17cm) apart, and at an angle of 110° to each other.
