Induro GIT404XL overview

  • 1Description

Optimized for the highest level of stability and utilizing a flat modular magnesium alloy platform, Induro's GIT404XL Grand Series 4 Stealth Carbon Fiber Tripod will provide many users with the ability to create their ideal setup, whether they need a leveling base, double-sided gear column, or video bowl. This version can hold up to 66.1 lb of equipment along with the ability to reach up to 71.1" in height. Also, due to the lack of a center column, it reaches down to 5.5".

Each leg is divided into 4 sections and they feature half-turn twist locks for fast adjustments. Portability is maintained as well with a folded length of 26.4". Each tripod also comes with an aluminum top plate with a hard anodizing, oversized weight hook, and a set screw for locking down your tripod head. Additionally, a carrying case is included for convenience.

    Induro GIT404XL reviews

GIT404XL Grand Series 4 Stealth Carbon Fiber Tripod is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome I have been a loyal user of Induro products for years. I was looking for another tripod and move away from center Colum. I looked at some other popular brands to try out but like this model of the induro. Having not been disappointed in the past I decided on the GIT404XL. Tried it this weekend with the 500mm V1. Loved it. Built like a tank but surprisingly light for the size. Legs are meaty and rock solid. Comes with a case that easily accomadates this tripod and gimbal head. I also like the ability to shoot low for waterfowl. The warranty is also a plus. Sent back a ball head for a minor problem. It was back in less than a week a whole new knob assembly was installed. No questions asked. Look forward to shooting with this tripod.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice tripod. Great value Nice quality tripod with lots of bells and whistles. It's heavier duty than I expected - the legs are more substantial than my Gitzo Series 4 and the leg locks have a good feel. Comes with a nylon bag, a carry case, different feet, and tools... amazing. I prefer the top plate on the Gitzo, which is threaded and screws into the tripod. It seems safer than the Induro which has a sprung pin and a compression lever to keep it in place. Gotta remember to keep that lever in the down position to secure the plate and your gear. Not a big problem and for the money, it's quite a terrific value all in all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tall and stable with great features This is my second Induro tripod. The first was a ct214 I carry for hiking/travel. I bought the 404XL primarily for architectural work and paired it with a Manfrotto 410 geared head. It makes for a very stable platform at the cost of a little portability. If one were shooting astro-landscapes or knew they needed the extra support in the field, it would be possible to hike with this (probably not comfortably though). Collapsed, it is small enough to lash to a larger backpack. The height of this tripod is perfect for me. I'm 5'10 and with the 410 geared head, the view finder of a 5D3 is right at eye-level with the first two sections extended. Using the third sections places the camera well overhead. *If you're considering a geared head like the 410 with any flat-top tripod (no center column) Manfrotto makes a spacer to allow the head to tilt back without bottoming into the tripod's top plate. The tripod comes with a lot of useful accessories. Its packed in a padded carry case that's closer in size to duffel bag. It has backpack straps (if that gives an idea of how big it is) and could easily be used as a small stand bag if not carrying the tripod. Three sets of feet are included - standard rubber feet, spikes and the pivoting flat feet shown on B&H. Lastly, a basic tool kit is provided. Overall I'd say that this tripod is 90% of a 4-Series Gitzo at about 50% of the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good tripod This is my first higher-end tripod, and it has not disappointed. I have used it a fair amount over the past couple of months, and it has always provided a very sturdy platform from which to take pictures, I am using it with a Wimberly head and a 600mm lens. The number of bird photos that are keepers has increased due to this set up. I was concerned about the stability of the head mount based on some other reviews, but a design enhancement has apparently been put in place to ensure that the head mount does not inadvertently come loose. A spring loaded pin will keep the head mount in place even if the quick release mechanism is not secure. This has not been an issue for me, but it is nice to know that it is there. I have carried the camera on the tripod locked in the head (despite the warnings not to), and it has never started to come loose so I view that as a good sign. Overall I am very impresses with this tripod and would definitely purchase it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tripod I put a Wimberly head on this beefy tripod. Excellent stability and the extra height allows for easy placement on uneven terrain. I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I've been on the fence for a long time and recently decided to take the jump from a Manfrotto Magfiber 055. I've always been very happy with the Manfrotto but when my ballhead became a little ragged I decide to dive in on a whole new setup. First off, in the past I'd found that the current tripod didn't have the height I wanted for various wildlife shooting without using a shaky center column, explaining the decision to go with this extremely stiff, very tall,non-center column tripod. The first use of the tripod immediately solidified why this tripod was a great idea. It was simply a notch above the previous tripod. Again, the previous tripod was very good, but this one is in another league as far as stiffness goes. Unfortunately it is in another league as far as weight goes as well. The fit and finish is excellent, better than I had previously expected. The features are well thought out and work nearly flawlessly. The accessories included with the purchase give this set of legs a value that is unequaled on the market. There are others that may be slightly better in finish and/or build quality, but an equal buy will put those other legs somewhere around 50-75% more expensive. That is significant, The various accessories like the spiked feet, carrying case/bagand leg covers are a nice touch. Strengths: -Value -Heights Available (both max and minimum) -Strength -Included accessories value more than $200 when compared to competitors -Stiffness -Finish -Warranty Weaknesses: -Cost (still relatively low, but its tough to call it anything but expensive) -Dated leg angle adjustment system -Weight (still relatively light for the available height) -Twist locks, while good, I would like a slightly more positive lock. I often loosen them when walking with it on my shoulder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it !!! I would definetely buy again. I've never had a good tripod before. I purchased the GIT404XLand a Really Right Stuff BH-55 Ball Head for my Nikon D5 and Nikon 400 f2.8 combination.. In my budget range this is the best I found and am really happy with the products. The tripod is rock solid with my camera / lens combo. You will not be disappointed in the stability of these legs!
