Sculptor, inventor, and martial artist Michael Martinez designed the black CRKT Ultima Fixed Blade Knife to address comfort and control issues common in today's tactical knives. Drawing on his personal experience and with input from medical specialists, Martinez developed a truly unique handle that is ideal for use in the four most popular tactical knife grips and achieves 22 out of 23 identified contact points on the hand for a sure, secure, comfortable, and slip-resistant grip.
The injection-molded black fiberglass-reinforced nylon scales feature over 70 triangular grip segments, separated by sipes, or "ooze grooves" which channel away water, mud and oil. Horizontal grooves are placed under the fingertips for optimum feel. Because tactical knives are inevitably used as pry bars, a butt pry tip is integrated as an extension of the blade tang, with a rounded tip.
The blade features a 4.95" modified tanto partially-serrated full-tang blade made of X8Cr13MoV (1.4116) stainless steel with a black titanium nitride coating. It comes with the patented Veff Serrations that are wide and angled at 60° to the edge. The resulting cutting points bite instantly and dig deep upon contact, slicing smoothly and effortlessly - giving improved cutting ability on rope, webbing, strapping, hoses and leather.
The custom black high-strength nylon fabric/glass filled nylon sheath has an injection-molded liner for a perfect fit for the blade. Dual drop-down straps with snap closures are adjustable in length to fit users of different heights, and there are ample grommets with a length of 550 paracord included for more strapping options. An adjustable leg strap, plus a slotted sheath back that can mount on MOLLE gear add to its usability. Removable security handle straps with snaps give the user a choice between access and security, depending on the situation.
