Great value, solid bass overall

I'm a guitarist looking for a simple bass to lay down some tracks and this fully suits the bill. It's lightweight, sounds good, plays well and is pretty solid considering the cost. I actually like the short scale and smaller size.  The only complaint I have is there are certain note combinations that produce an odd resonance/modulation. The worst is the open E and fretted C (third string, 3 fret). There are other combinations on the neck but these two are the worst. I have checked tuning and intonation, which are correct. I can't help but wonder if it is a design issue, wood related, string related, or just the physics of bass guitars. Either way, I can live with it but it remains a strange characteristic of this guitar (possibly other basses too?).

Yes, you will want to use Short Scale bass strings. From the factory it comes with 'Light' gauge strings, like the D'Adddario EXL170S https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1289387-REG/d_addario_exl170s_set_short_scale_string.html
