Hasselblad 16mm Overview

Sporting a petite pancake profile, the LF 16mm f/2.8 Lens from Hasselblad is a wide-angle prime designed for APS-C-format E-mount mirrorless cameras. This 24mm equivalent lens features a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture to help control focus position and better enable working in low-light conditions. Additionally, an internal focusing design is employed to maintain the sleek profile of the lens during use, which also contributes to fast focusing speeds and quiet operation to suit both stills and video use.

Wide-angle prime 16mm lens provides a 24mm equivalent focal length with APS-C-format image sensors.
Bright f/2.8 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also contributes to using selective focus techniques.
One aspherical element reduces aberrations and distortions for sharper, clearer image quality.
The lens' sleek pancake design measures 0.9"-thick and weighs 2.4 oz, making it an ideal everyday lens for walk-around shooting.
Internal focusing design only moves the middle elements for changing focus, which maintains the overall length of the lens during use, quickens focusing speeds, and helps to achieve a minimum focusing distance of 9.4". Additionally, the front filter ring of the lens does not rotate during use to better enable working with circular polarizers and graduated ND filters.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm creates a pleasing out-of-focus quality with shallow depth of field imagery.

Hasselblad 16mm Reviews

Good pancake lens

I already own a pancake 16mm from Sony. When I saw the discounted price of Hasselblad version, I got one of these as well. Not happy with the plastic that came as a rear lens cap. The front cap is ok. Feel it is more flimsy than the Sony. Besides that it was as described. This is a good lens. I have gotten very good photos with this lens and bad ones as well. Still trying to figure out what causes the bad ones. The size however makes it ideal for a gimbal for shooting videos. On a nex5t, it almost makes it pocketable. Overall good value for the price.

This is my 8th lens for use with my two Nex 7 bodies. It does nothing that my Sony 10-18 f/4 OSS does not do, but it is so small and light that it converts the Nex (and also the current a-6000) to almost a pocket camera, not much more protrusion and weight than a body cap. Numerous reviews and tests have shown that this pancake 16mm lacks corner resolution at large apertures. But for landscape shooting at f/8 this is not an issue. A Nex 7 was mounted on a tripod and a landscape with pine trees, bright sun and snow was photographed at f/8, 1/250, ISO 100 with this lens, then with the 10-18 f/4 set at 16mm, both shot in RAW. In Lightroom 6 lens corrections were applied, and frames compared. Color and contrast were indistinguishable. No chromatic aberrations were seen (dark pine needles against bright sky can have them). Center and corner crops were then compared for resolution, using the needles on pine trees and texture of tree bark as test patterns. If there is a difference in resolution, center or corners, I am hard pressed to see it. Thus this lens, when used in its sweet spot around f8, is fully satisfactory. It is selling for a bargain price and makes these Sony cameras very compact and light weight.

Thrilled with this lens!

I got the Hasselblad Lunar as a gift for Christmas and, while it comes with a great kit lens, I knew I wanted to go wider with it. I got the 16mm/2.8 and am beyond thrilled with how much I can get in frame. Can't recommend enough!

Very sharp lens!

very sharp lens, Even at 2.8. corners usually are cropped in post. Give 4 starts for the poor plastic feel. But considering price- not bad at all. Bokeh is - well you don't buy this lens for bokeh.

Low profile

Bought it for street photography. Wish it were a bit faster but f2.8 will do. Seems sharp enough but I haven't used it enough to be real critical. No optical stabilization but it may not be a problem. It keeps keeps my a6000 camera small and compact.

Re-branded Sony for much less $ - Functional not great

Giving this lens 4 stars because for the price you really can't go wrong. It's sharp in the center but falls off quickly. It's color rendition and contrast are quite good. It's distortion characteristics are strange but fun. A little disappointed that Hasselblad couldn't see fit to include any documentation of any kind and the disposable rear cap was an unpleasant surprise.

Not a sharp prime

I purchased this lens for my Sony A6000 to have a small prime lens when I didn't want the weight and bulk of the 18-200mm telephoto lens. To test the lens I took shots with this lens at f8, f5.6 and f4 and the telephoto at 18mm at the same f stops and compared. All of the images taken with the telephoto were sharper than this lens. So, I returned this lens and will get a different prime for the A6000. I was surprised because all of my Nikon prime lenses are much sharper than the telephoto lenses.

Identical to the Sony except for price and lens caps.

Bought the lens to give a wider angle, it does that. Note that some review has claimed that it does not offer the hybrid autofocus that the real Sony lens offers... Well the truth is neither the Sony branded or Hasselblad branded 16mm lens offers the hybrid focusing. So don't think that buying the Sony lens will automatically give you phase detection autofocus, it will not. Sony provides that type of focus feature on specific lenses and the widest prime lens you can get that offers that feature is the Sonnar T* E 24mm F1.8 ZA. Is this lens great? No... but if you want cheap autofocus wide angle this is your best option.

question

Can I use this lens on Sony A6000?
Asked by: Anonymous
I keep this on my A6000 most of the time because it makes the camera nice and portable and is a decently fast and sharp lens. This lens is wayyyy better than the 16-50mm kit lens. I don't mind that it's wide because I can always crop the image or get closer to the subject as needed.

question

Is there an adapter available for use on any Canon cameras?
Asked by: Tim
No. The flange distance is much smaller on E-Mount cameras than it is on Canon or Nikon DSLR, so it is difficult if not impossible to adapt E-Mount lenses to EF/EF-S.

question

What will this do if put on a full-frame A7?
Asked by: Anonymous
There is a plastic plate on the back of the lens held on with some small screws that you can (carefully) remove. Best to use a small screwdriver. Once you take it off it will give more coverage for the full frame sensor on the A7 (you need to turn off the crop mode), but will still not cover the whole frame. It will give you an interesting fish-eye type effect, however the edges are very blurred. Remember it is an aps-c lens. I tried this before I sold my NEX-5 with the lens when I got my A7. I wouldn't buy the lens just to do this though. Try looking for a full frame wide angle lens, it will give you much better results.

question

The heading says 16mm, but the product description says 24mm. Which length is this lens?
Asked by: erin g.
Focal length is 16mm. However, if you were to compare this lens to a full frame (35mm film equivalent camera) the field of view would be comparable to a 24mm focal length.
