will this work on a sony a68?
will this work on a sony a68?
Yes, it does. The A68 has the current iteration of Sony hoeshoes (MI) with a center pin. As long as the center pin from the flash meets, it will trigger. Do take note that the Sony MI shoe has very delicate pins at the very back, so please be careful and do not jam the KX-800 too hard into the A68's shoe.

Is Guide Number of 190 feet at ISO 100 correct? I ...
Is Guide Number of 190 feet at ISO 100 correct? I suspect a typo or manufacturer claim is wrong. For comparison the $989 Canon MT-26EX-RT GN is 85.3 feet. I doubt the Venus unit puts out (190/85.3)^2= 5 times as much light.
Since "For any given "correct flash exposure" situation, guide number is simply numerically equal to the aperture number (like the number 8 in f/8) multiplied by the subject distance (like 10 feet)."
Here we are seeing approx. f/8 at 24 feet giving one a 190 Guide number. Because this light is for macro work, one would almost never use it at full power, usually no more than 5 feet away.

Is it practical to use this flash for non-macro photography? Has anyone used it this way?
Yes, I have used the KX-800 for non-macro photography and there are some advantages in that you have the possibility to have flash lighting from different angles. Not much use for large or distant subjects , but quite nice for portraits and still-life. With a little ingenuity one can also screen the flash lamps differently for softer and sharper effects or colour effects on the same subject.
