Bolt VC-310C overview

  • 1Description

Compact and very capable, the VC-310C Compact On-Camera TTL Flash from Bolt is fully compatible with Canon's E-TTL / E-TTL II system and offers a plethora of features for advanced on- and off-camera flash photography. The relatively small unit has a guide number of 105' at ISO 100 for easily illuminating a range of subjects as well as coverage for 28mm lenses on full frame cameras or 18mm on APS-C cameras. The included diffuser can soften the output of the flash while increasing the coverage to 17mm on full frame or 12mm on APS-C. For bounce capabilities the VC-310C can tilt from -7 to 90° and rotate left 60° and right 90° for more flattering lighting than provided by direct flash.

Another feature of the VC-310C is the ability to use LED lights to preview lighting and as a focus assist. This model can be used as a wireless master or slave with full TTL support in each mode. Stroboscopic mode is available for creative effects requiring multiple flashes during a single exposure for numerous possibilities. The ability to accept firmware updates via a Micro-USB port ensures compatibility in the rapidly changing digital landscape.

Coverage for 28mm lenses on full frame or 18mm on APS-C, when the diffuser is used it expands coverage to 17mm on full frame or 12mm on APS-C

    Bolt VC-310C reviews

VC-310C Compact On-Camera TTL Flash for Canon Cameras is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this flash again and would recommend it! I own a Canon 600EX, which suit most of my needs, except for when I travel. It size adds to the bulk and weight that I have to contend with when I travel. I was interested in a smaller, lighter strobe for travel. I was surprised to find in the B&H catalogue the Bolt VC310C. It was small, light weight, TTL, LED info screen...it bounced, swiveled and interfaced with my Canon EOS. Perfect for my travel needs. So far it has been perfect! I would recommend it to anyone looking for a compact, feature loaded flash for traveling.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Powerful, but not accurate This a powerful flash, great for the price. However, the eTTL exposure circuitry doesn’t appear to be very accurate. I consistently get images overexposed by about 1 stop when using the flash in eTTL mode. I am able to compensate for the overexposure by adjusting the flash output down by 1 stop, but that defeats the purpose of exposure automation. I’ll continue to use it on my Canon EOS M6 because it is much more powerful than the built in flash, and because its size doesn’t overwhelm the camera. I will, however, most likely replace it when I find another of similar specifications.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent compact flash I own the Bolt 710C. Wanted a compact and light weight flash, so last year I purchased the Bolt 260C. What a waste. No features, no control. Just recently, bought the Bolt 310C. What a great flash! Compact, lightweight, plenty of controls and versatility (all for just $30 more than the 260). Love this flash. Perfect for outdoor fill, a light weight indoor flash and as a slave.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best flash unit ever. Very powerful unit in an exceptionally compact package. Great replacement for bulkier units. Extremely versatile and multi-functional. Works beautifully in iTTL mode and allows flash compensation for creative control. Modeling light is a very useful feature. Best flash unit I have ever had.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for small DSLR's - always have a camera on hand! It's a powerful (within expectations for its size) flash with full TTL and manual controls, swivel (both directions)/tilt and (some form of) wireless control. Perfect for smaller DSLR's like the Rebel series. It's a lot more powerful and versatile than the pop-up, but a lot smaller than most flashes; Perfect if you have a small camera and smal portable bag that you can always keep with you but want a REAL flash too. Oh, and the included dome-style diffuser and built-in LED is an added bonus!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for the role I purchased this flash in order to have a compact flash to use for casual, out and about or vacation use instead of lugging around my 580EXII. This one hits the sweet spot, combining small size with enough power and features to make it useful for most non-professional purposes. The general build quality was actually better than I had expected. To my very experienced hands and ears the tilt and swivel functions were accompanied by a satisfyingly solid physical and audible click at each position setting. The included diffuser dome and storage bag are a nice touch. Even the packaging was above average, not that that really maters. This unit will be travelling with me wherever I go and is even in my kit as a backup for less demanding shoots in case of failure of one of my larger flashes, or to use as a fill light. Well done Bolt.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little flash This flash works as a master or a slave. It is well built. The only negative is the sensor always points in the same direction as the flash head which makes it tricky using it as a slave.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Flash for home use. Not as sophisticated as the more expensive for a Canon, but an excellent unit for the price.
