Bolt VC-310F overview

  • 1Description

Compact and very capable, the VC-310F Compact On-Camera TTL Flash from Bolt is fully compatible with Fujifilm's TTL system and offers a plethora of features for advanced on- and off-camera flash photography. The relatively small unit has a guide number of 105' at ISO 100 for easily illuminating a range of subjects as well as coverage for 28mm lenses on full frame cameras or 18mm on APS-C cameras. The included diffuser can soften the output of the flash while increasing the coverage to 17mm on full frame or 12mm on APS-C. For bounce capabilities the VC-310F can tilt from -7 to 90° and rotate left 60° and right 90° for more flattering lighting than provided by direct flash.

Another feature of the VC-310F is the ability to use LED lights to preview lighting and as a focus assist. This model can be used as an optical slave in manual mode with settings for instant sync or to skip pre-flash for maximum compatibility. The ability to accept firmware updates via a Micro-USB port ensures compatibility in the rapidly changing digital landscape.

Coverage for 28mm lenses on full frame or 18mm on APS-C, when the diffuser is used it expands coverage to 17mm on full frame or 12mm on APS-C
Manual power settings are available with settings from 1/1 to 1/128
Recycle time of about 5 seconds at full power
Backlit LCD screen
Modeling flash setting will fire a burst of flashes for a preview of lighting
Flash exposure compensation from -3 to +3 EV in 1/3 EV steps
Second curtain sync setting allows flash to fire at the end of exposure for more advanced lighting techniques

    Bolt VC-310F reviews

VC-310F Compact On-Camera TTL Flash for Fujifilm Cameras is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Features, Quality, speed, price, size - exactly as i wanted I was waiting for Metz to release something similar to this; I wanted something which I can bounce from roof, for both landscape and portrait mode. I wanted quick access to buttons to turn features on/off; and quick access for EV scale. Packing looks nice (somewhat premium), product feel in hand looks solid, similar feel when I received Metz for my old Canon 50D. As constant LED focus assist light if you wanted to use that in dark conditions. Only compliant I have is if somehow diffuser could have been integrated within the flash like insert-able flap. Now taking pictures at 1/125 shutter speed in less than 1600 ISO in indoor lighting condition is doable, and I am able to get the decent exposure in the range of f/2.8 - f/5.6. Happy so far, after 1 month of use - I report back and edit this review.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best bang for your buck I don't use a flash that much except in a studio type situation where things don't normally move , but I do use them when needed and like one that doesn't pop up from your body, I looked at the ones that are compatible with Fuji's TTL and compared them and the little Bolt seemed like the best choice. It had the features I wanted and the price was most attractive and reviews from others helped in my choice also. The only thing I really don't like is the foot that locks down with a screw plate, but it's doable for me. I would have given it five stars if this would have been the lever. Would I tell a friend about it? yes in a heart beat. The size of it is not overbearing like some of the larger units on the market which also a big plus. Buy it and be happy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beware all Fuji XT-2 Users At first glance this looks like a good flash, however when I paired it with my xt-2 it does not work...or I should say it only works in manual mode. I called Bolt directly and support said there is nothing on the horizon to fix this...mind blowing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great TTL flash for Fuji X camera Great little flash. Exactly what I was looking for. Fuji's offerings were either too small with weak power or way too large. The Bolt flash is not too big or clumsy on my Fuji X100s. It tilts up and down so I can bounce flash (it would have been nice to get 90 degrees bounce left AND right, but that would be nit-picking). It has a simple easy to understand LCD menu screen and the bounce diffuser does a great job. I wanted a small (but powerful) flash I could easily slip in my pocket when I walked around with my X100s on holidays so I could do fill flash. The Bolt fits the bill nicely and the price is very respectable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heck of a value I am really impresed with the overal quality and functionality of the VC-310F unit. i wanted a small flash to use with my Fuji X70 and this unity was less than half the price of Fuji's own compact flash and has more feathures (such as the tilting head).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Surprisingly good. This was a lark for me, but it turns out to be quite high quality and a steal at this price. Haven't used too much so far but works will with X-Pro2 and gives nice natural results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EXCELLENT RIG! I'll start by saying I wish I'd known how great Bolt units were prior to my buying this one! I would've bought Bolt before a few other brands I've purchased these last 3 years or so. Other brands (which shall remain nameless) are just fine and dandy and most are still working fine. But the build quality, look, size, weight of this little guy are wonderful! And I'll add that - looking at it, it you wouldn't think it would put out the light it does - but it does!!! If you're looking for a flash unit to use as a fill flash, look no more. This will do it - and more. The manual functions offer a lot of in between settings. Both slave functions work flawlessly. The TTL also works, communicates and gives great end results. The option to have the LED lights come on permanently (for focal reasons etc...) are a great addition as well. I do a fair amount of night shooting with subjects and this is a gawd send :). For street photography and similar, this rig could fit in a pocket fairly easily until you need to attach it to your cam. Just can't say enough good about this unit. Someone (a photographer friend of mine) mentioned it didn't rotate side to side. For me this is no issue at all to begin with. But if I REALLY needed this, I'd just take it off my camera and either use a wireless trigger (that I bought from B & H - cost me about $30.00 for a set (I'm sure you can figure out the brand < wink>)) OR just use the slave function. Hence, I actually have a better pic than using the flash on camera rotating it side to side. I can directly point where I need the light in the aforementioned manner. OK, I'll stop my positive rant now :). Unless you're trying to illuminate the Washington Mall or the area in front of The Vatican, BUY IT! :)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't work with my Xpro2 I thought I was just incompetent and couldn't figure this camera out, but just saw another review on here saying the same thing that it works (sort of) in manual flash mode, but that's it. Really frustrating. Way too powerful, even when compensation bumped way down. Batteries die immediately. Very sad it's too late to return this.
