StarTech USB3HDCAP Overview

The StarTech USB 3.0 Video Capture Device connects to your Windows computer via USB 3.0 and enables your Windows PC (including Windows 10) to capture multimedia content from A/V devices like a video camera, security system, POS terminal, and more. It features HDMI, DVI, VGA, S-Video, composite, and component connections that let you record at a frame rate of 60 fps with H.264 encoding. 60 fps Picture Quality
The recording of a lossless video at 60 fps ensures every frame of content is saved, unlike 30-frame-per-second capture devices that only catch half the action. Recording a video at 60 fps exactly matches the output of most computer video cards, which is suitable for recording the output from your Windows PC, server, or POS station when creating software training and tutorial videos.
H.264 Encoding for Wide Device Compatibility
The included software encodes in H.264, the most widely adopted video codec in the world, ensuring your video captures will be compatible with almost any device platform, such as, Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android with no editing or converting required. H.264 is also widely supported by most software titles including Adobe Premiere and Windows Media Encoder. Additionally, the software not only lets you capture and export videos, but it also lets you take screenshots, schedule recordings, and instantly stream your video source over the Internet using online services.

This USB capture card is capable of capturing lossless raw video, making it compatible with Microsoft DirectShow. With raw video capture, you can record video using your preferred third party DirectShow software such as Open Broadcaster Software (OBS).
Host Compatibility
Compatible with host computer running Windows 10, Windows 8 / 8.1 (32/64-bit), Windows 7 (32/64-bit), Windows Vista (32/64-bit), and Windows XP (32/64-bit).
Flexible Input Solutions for Convenient Compatibility
With multiple A/V input options, you can capture from a wide variety of sources including HDMI, DVI, VGA, and component. You can also use this capture device with A/V adapters to record other video sources such as SDI using StarTech's sold separately SDI to HDMI converter (SDI2HD). Support for a variety of A/V devices makes it suitable for archiving analog video footage into a digital database.

The device also includes easy-to-use software that's compatible with NTSC and PAL systems, making it a must for professional video archiving applications where source media can change from project to project.
Note:
This capture device will not record digitally encrypted content and is not compatible with ASmedia or Etron USB 3.0 host controllers.

question

Is this Mac OsX compatible?
Asked by: Luciana C.
While the product is able to encode videos to the H.264 format, which is a file that a Mac will be able to read, you cannot hook it up and encode to a Mac directly. This is a Windows only product. If you have an OS X computer with USB 3.0 the BMD Intensity Shuttle would be a good alternative, B&H # BLIS.https://bhpho.to/2czmvvi

This comes with the easy to use Stream Catcher Software which allows you to record H.264 files and stream to RTMP services. You can also use it with DirectShow compatible programs software such as Open Broadcaster Software.

Does this device enable digitization of Hi8 tape and VHS tape recordings?
Asked by: David
Yes, the StarTech USB 3.0 Video Capture Device supports Analog capture. With Hi-8 content you would be mostly capturing from S-Video, composite sources which are both supported by the StarTech USB 3.0 Video Capture Device.

question

Will the driver support 2 or more devices on a single host?
Asked by: Anonymous
You will only be able to use one of these units at a time with a single device hooked up to it. Connecting multiple devices at a time will usually require a capture device with multiple inputs such as a Magewell HDMI Capture Card with 4 inputs or the AJA IO 4k which has SDI inputs.

question

Will this product be able to live stream a Canon Vixia HF R600 on a PC Windows 10?
Asked by: Lance D.
Your capture device will accept signals from just about anything up to, but not including, a 3D or 4K HDMI signal so your Vixia should be fine. Your PROBLEM may be your PC which you do not identify. The PC must have a fast processor and an USB 3 port. A USB 2 port will NOT work very well if at all. My PC has two USB2 and only one USB3 so consult your manual.
