Rokinon T1.5 Pro overview

  • 1Description

Rokinon's Xeen 24mm T1.5 Lens for Canon EF Mount is built specifically for use as a cinema lens. It features an internal focus design so that the lens does not change size while focusing, this minimizes the appearance of breathing when changing focus. Each lens in the set is multi-coated for good contrast, glare prevention, and are color matched to a factory standard, allowing you to assemble a set over time with minimal color shift. This 24mm lens provides what is considered a wide angle of view on full-frame cameras, and a tighter angle of view on smaller formats.

The lens features dual sided focus scales marked in feet, with dual sided iris scales. The 11-bladed iris provides a rounded aperture for a natural looking highlights and Bokeh. The lens is a manual focus and iris lens, and does not have auto focus or auto iris capability. It incorporates cinema-style focus and iris gears that share the same position across the lenses in the Xeen set. The common 114mm front diameter allows for quick lens changes when using a matte box and focus accessories. The focus ring rotates 200° from close focus to infinity; this gives you a high degree of precision when adjusting focus.

This is a 24mm lens that has an image circle that covers a full-frame sensor. When mounted on a camera with a full-frame sensor it provides you with a wide angle of view.
The lens features metal construction to withstand the rigors of daily production, and comes with a support foot that can help take strain off your camera's lens port.
Dual right and left side focus and T-stop scales allow your focus puller to work from either side of the lens, without having to flip the lens in the mount, or facing upside numerals.
Each lens in the XEEN series share common focus and iris gear ring positions, which speeds up lens changes as accessories such as follow focus units or iris motors don't have to be re-positioned.
The common 114mm front diameter allows for quick lens changes as you don't have to swap out anti-reflection donuts or adapters to use the same matte box.
The non-rotating front allows you to use optional clip-on matte boxes.
"Clickless" aperture ring for smooth iris pulls.
A minimum focusing distance of 10" allows you to get up close to your subject.

    Rokinon T1.5 Pro reviews

Xeen 24mm T1.5 Lens for Canon EF Mount is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Glass for Great Price I am a commercial DP and i specify in lifestyle and documentary spots. So I'm pretty familiar with many middle tier lenses such as CP2, CN-E, etc. and I found these Xeen lenses to fit in nicely with the group. In my own opinion I would rate the Xeen lens right behind the CP2 but a higher quality than the CN-E. I think CP2 has a bit nicer bokeh and is slightly sharper but for the price difference there is no comparison. You can get 2 Xeens for 1 CP2! The CN-E is much softer than the Xeen. I also feel that the Xeen is a bit warmer than the CP2 and CN-E. Which I do not mind at all as I like a bit of a warmer feel. Again this is my opinion. I brought the Xeen out and gave it a beating on a recent production and I felt that it definitely held up. I took it out in the snow, desert, and forrest and it was a sturdy work horse in every scenario. I even had an accident with it while snowboarding and it was fine. A lot of the crew were asking about the Xeen lens and wanted to check it out. Everyone was impressed with the form factor and how light it was for a cinema prime and they were even more impressed with the images it produced. Oh and the fact that it's T1.5 is super sweet. So overall I'm pretty impressed with this lens and would consider buying the 50, 35 and 14.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value I needed a lens in this focal length and have been contemplating for a quite a few months. I've worked with other more expensive, high quality glass and this lens performs just as well as those. When I added the clip-on matte box and an ND filer...I was in heaven. At 1.5 it's a wee-bit soft, but usable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'll purchase the whole series now! Originally I was going to purchase the Canon Cine series lenses until I stumbled across the Xeen line of cine lenses. The price point is excellent for what has turned out to be a very robust, well built, overall amazing piece of glass, The color is superb and the focus ring is smooth and accurate. I can't imagine how I was able to function not using a cine lens for video and film before this! It is an absolute must for the budget minded cinematographer.
