Aputure LS 1c overview

  • 1Description

A sleek LED panel with a CRI of 95 and beam angle of 45°, the Light Storm LS 1c from Aputure includes the LED fixture along with a dedicated controller box that accepts V-Mount type batteries.. Aside from providing power to the unit, the included controller box also enables wireless dimming control using the included remote. Four groups and three channels can be employed for quickly switching between different looks.

The Light Storm LS 1c features a slim and durable aluminum alloy housing along with a manual yoke for versatile positioning. A four-way barndoor set offers greater control over the light and ten sheets of included diffusion paper also helps to produce an even, diffuse quality of light. The light control separation design, afforded by the controller box, also maintains a low center of gravity for easier placement of the fixture and easier switching of batteries during use.

  • The light's design incorporates 1536 individual LEDs to produce a beam angle of 45° along with a CRI of 95.
  • Variable color temperature control for tungsten to daylight, 3200-5500K tuning.
Included wireless controller box features a battery plate that accepts Sony V-Mount type batteries for convenient, portable power. An AC/DC cable is also included for AC power.
The controller box, which features two 90° antennas, also permits wireless dimming and color tuning control using the included 2.4 GHz remote. Four groups and three channels are also available.
  • DMX512 protocol is also supported for wireless control.
  • Aluminum alloy construction is both durable and sleek for use in a variety of conditions.
  • Manual yoke allows for variable positioning. Additionally, a four-way barndoor set is incorporated into the design for further control over the beam.
  • Ten sheets of acid-free, smooth surface diffusion paper is included to broaden the light quality, reduce the output to 85%, and provide an effective 180° beam angle.
  • A LEMO-style connector is used between the controller box and light fixture for convenient, one-handed installation and removal of the included connection cable.

    Aputure LS 1c reviews

Light Storm LS 1c LED Light with Wireless Controller Box and Sony V-Mount Battery Plate is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality, great price, great performance Its hard to add anything to all the other positive comments on these lights. The build quality is really impressive. I have already tipped one over on a 7' stand. It hit a table and did some damage, but the light had no visible marks - not a scratch, and continued to work flawlessly! The ability to dial-in the color temperature is a whole new dimension for me, and I love the range of looks I can get. I also love the remotes... I bought 2 of these with Matthews stands, and could not be happier with the combination. I also bought 2 ILED-K softbox diffuser kits that fit these lights, and I am very pleased with the results as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great choice for bi color LED The small size, bright output, and price make this panel one to have in your kit. There's opinion that 5500k lights are always much brighter than bi color, but based on the manufactures data, and the beam angle of the bi color panels, my calculations show only a half-stop difference between LightStorm's daylight vs. bi color, so that's an easy choice for me. I like the remote electronics off the panel, but you now have more items to worry about because of the extra cables and such. Overall it's definitely a quality panel for the price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Really unhappy with this product Just so you know, I keep each unit wrapped in bubble wrap inside a padded bag then snugly tucked into a Pelican case. Only I use them, so they're not subjected to abuse. Right away one of the cheap plastic antennas snapped off, unfixable with Superglue. It also uses flimsy 8-pin connectors on the power cable between the controller box and the lamp - the moment one of those tiny, thin pins is bent (which happens as you have to push them, at a weird angle, into the lamp) it won't work, rendering the unit worthless (just had that happen on a job). Had to spend $240 on replacement power cables. Really unhappy with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this light! This is my first purchase of LED lights and I must say that (so far), I am very pleased with the construction of the product and the quality and output of the light. I ordered a Swit V Lock battery to power the unit and I was under the impression that the Controller Box would charge the battery but it would not. I ordered separate battery Swit charger, which is an expensive addition, but I am sure I will ultimately be very pleased with the new light and accessories.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Have to see if it's a fluke: Definite hum The light looks great, but on this unit there is a hum through much of the dimmer range if the light is set to full to 5500 or 3200K. I'm going to contact B & H to see if this is a defect. It seemed loud enough to be an issue at least some of the time when shooting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic light. I literally spent weeks searching for the right LED. I needed something bi-color and portable for all the doc work/travel I do, and with all the options I felt overwhelmed. Once I found this light, I was pretty intrigued. I was turned off by the hanging battery, but it started to make more sense after I read reviews from other people. Not having to adjust the light itself when changing batteries and not having to lower lights that are high to adjust color temp/brightness sounded really great, and this price seemed almost too good to be true. I've had the light for a few days now, and let me tell you, from the moment I took it out of the box I loved it. I have never in my life felt an LED that was so solidly made. This thing is easily double, maybe three times the weight of an Astra, with no plastic on the frame at all. It has the best build quality I've ever seen on an LED. The light this thing produces is great. I've not had any trouble with green or magenta tints. The digital display on the battery box is a really nice touch, and the wheels make adjustments very easy. The light is brightest at 4200k, and gets maybe half a stop darker at full 5500k and 3200k. Though I haven't used this light very long, if the build quality is any indication it will be part of my kit for years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hard to find a better light for the money! I spent several months working with the Manfrotto Lykos Bi-Color LED & the Manfrotto Spectra 1x1 Bi-Color LED. Intimately seeing their strengths and weaknesses helped inform my decision to ultimately buy the Aputure Lightstorm after using it only once. At its price point, the features outweigh the flaws and I'd recommend it to most people. PROS: -The obvious: bright, compact, low energy consumption, and high color accuracy. -Price. -The aluminum alloy housing is sturdy and the other components feel robust unlike the cheap plastic feel of the Litepanel Astras. -Separating the battery from the fixture is genius. You don't need to alter the position of your light just to change a dead battery or adjust the color/brightness. -The light control unit digitally displays your brightness and color temperature. No guess work. -The included wireless remote control can dim and adjust color balance. -DMX Compatible -3x5500 and 3x3200 spare globes. -Choice of Sony V-mount or Anton Bauer Gold Mount battery mount at time of purchase. CONS -Separating the controls and power source from the fixture adds two untethered bulky items. The control/battery unit has a nylon strap to hang on a C-stand knuckle, but the large AC adaptor (7 x 2 ) is burdensome. I'm going to put sash cord on it so it too can hang from the C-Stand for quick/safe repositioning. I wish the AC adaptor could mount to the back of the control box to streamline things. -There's nothing to protect your precious 1,536 LEDs! Perhaps Aputure could solve this problem and send it to current owners. Many brands use a plastic shield to guard the numerous lights. If you're going to rent this out a lot, then I'd be a little weary. NEUTRAL -I really wanted a 1x1 and this is a little short of those dimensions. -The reflective material on the barn doors isn't typical, but since I'm almost always going to put diffusion in front of it and use the barn doors as a soft box, it's not a big deal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Output, Even Tone After trying various lighting solutions and being disappointed, I decided to give the Aputure LS 1c led lights a try. With the previous led light kit that I had tried, I realized, only after reviewing my footage in post, that due to the arrangement of the leds, a very pronounced pattern (reminiscent of an Tokyo Sunrise) with different colored bars was visible in all my scenes. This patterning effectively rendered all the footage useless. So understandably, I was quite cautious when testing the Aputure LS 1c led lights. I paid great attention to color temperature, patterning, highlights and flicker... Everything that could affect the end product. I am happy to report that the LS 1c bi-color lights performed flawlessly. Colors were even. These little lights can easily pump out as much light as you need to get the look you want. And all while running nice and cool. I can report in good conscience that Aputures appears to have put out a first rate professional grade product with the LS 1c. Build quality is very good. The product is well thought out. Clearly, someone was thinking about how these lights would be used when they designed the controls to be housed on a separate unit. While the tightly grouped honeycomb led arrangement makes for a virtually pattern free light source. Nicely done Aputure!!! If you are like me, and were on the fence about which lights to get, but wanted something well made and well thought out, that can provide a good quality of light and are built to last, then look no further. These bad boys will get the job done. The rest is up to you.
