Watson C-2E Reviews

Charges FAST, loaded with needed features!

I'm using this charger for the 148Wh 15A Li-ion V-Mount Battery Watson Pro Cine High-Load V-Mount Battery (B&H # WAVM148HCSR)  (MFR # VM-148-HCS-R) . The BIGGEST V-Mount battery WATSON makes so far. I can power anything with those. I usually like to stick to the same brand when regarding high load batteries and chargers, because since they are both designed by the same manufacturer to work with one another, you can't go wrong regarding safety, performance and peace of mind. These batteries can be pretty specific, so, I'd recommend that you purchase the same brand / charger and battery. This charger is light, only 2.4 pounds, and the batteries are 2.2 pounds. Things to know, and how to become familiar with this charger and understanding why and how it works. These are high amperage circuits, and this particular charger must work as follows: The charger will recognize the battery when connected to the L and R channels. When two batteries are connected, charging is simultaneous at 2.5A, OR, sequentially (one at the time) at 5A. Simultaneous charging will occur for batteries SMALLER than 6.6A, while SEQUENTIAL charging occurs for V-Mount batteries GREATER than 8.8A. Sequential charging will charge the LEFT channel FIRST, up to 85%, then charging the RIGHT channel will BEGIN. After BOTH batteries REACH 85%, the charger WILL SWITCH to SIMULTANEOUS mode, and finally charge the both batteries in FULL. This process took only 4.2 hours using the biggest battery. Additional features: 4 PIN XLR Jack, rated at 16.7 V / 4.5A when connected to AC and 15V / 4A when connected to the battery. NOTE that, regardless if you plug the charger in the wall AC, if you have either 1 or both batteries connected to the charger, the XLR jack's POWER will STILL be OUTPUT and prioritized FROM the battery. Very happy with this charger. It's like charging two small canon 1DX DSLR battery for the time it takes charging my monster V mount batteries. 4.2 hours! that all it takes for TWO! Picked up this charger mainly because its $160 with EDU discount which is crazy. Charges pretty fast & simultaneously! (5A with 1 or 2.5A each with 2). Its small enough to fit in with other gear if needed and not too heavy. The handle is a nice touch although removing it would probably save a decent amount of space for travel.

Designed with purpose!

“I really love this charger” is something I thought I would never say, but here I am saying it loud and proud.  I’m really enamored with this battery charger (for one simple feature which I’ll get to later). From top to bottom this charger is just well designed.  Let’s start with the form factor.  It’s light without feeling cheap.  I’m not going to say that if you threw it on the ground full force it would survive, but if it tipped over on set, I wouldn’t think twice about it being functional.  Speaking of tipping over, it’s going to be nearly impossible for the charger to become unbalanced with the charger stands extended.  They have a nice give to them meaning I wasn’t worried about them breaking when using heavier batteries.  The base of the unit is even rubberized to reduce the risk of it sliding.  The LED indicators are simple to read, red means charging, green means charged ( or at least 95% charged). No complex data readouts, or complicated morse code light combinations (I’m looking at you Canon). Not that I’m saying it wouldn’t be nice to have an LCD screen showing what percent the batteries were charged at, but it isn’t a necessity. The top handle is a nice touch, and makes transport really convenient. It makes the whole entire thing feel like it was made with purpose, instead of necessity.  Now onto the one aspect of this product that has me so excited that I’m questioning my sanity even mentioning it.  I LOVE THE XLR DC OUTPUT.  It’s crazy that this one little thing has me over the moon.  Not only can the charger output power from the XLR port while the unit is plugged in and charging the batteries, but when the unit isn’t plugged in the XLR port can still output power from the attached batteries!!!!  This is so clutch!  What this means is that you have a portable power source as well as a charger!  Let’s say you have a piece of gear like an LED light that doesn’t have a battery solution but does have an XLR input, you can power that light, essentially turning something studio based into something totally portable!  MIND BLOWN! If I have one complaint at all it is that when the internal fan does kick on, it is a bit noisy.  Not jet engine loud, but depending on your shooting situation you will notice it slightly.  This is by no means a deal breaker for me, but your milage my very. When all said and done this is a really well designed power solution and I am super glad to have this on my gear list! *slow clap, high five* PS. In the picture you see below, the Luxli Timpani Light Panel is being powered through the charger, with no AC power input. [I received this product in exchange for my honest review.]

question

Hi, Is this charger compatible with core swx batteries? Thanks!
Asked by: Taylor A.
There is no compatibility listing regarding these two products. You may proceed at your own risk. That being said, most likely there should not be any issue. If there is a problem, usually what is incompatible is the battery power level meters performing correctly.
