I guest I got into a marketing trap...I saw this for 1/3 of the price and I always wanted to buy a Fresnel modifier but this sadly does the job by 1/3...I lose so much light output its freaking insane...dnt waste your money on it..

I am a recent convert to the world of COB lighting. I love the look and focusing ability of fresnels but wasn't sure you could get that with COB lights. This is a great solution to add on to your existing lights. Does the trick nicely. Does it make your cheap light into an ARRI? No, but it works really well.

    NOT FOR STROBES

The build quality is okay for the price. The fresnel is made of glass. It's small and portable. Unfortunately it is a better projection lens than just a focused modifier. On a strobe it actually projects the shape of the flash tube. *See attached test images Without a frost globe over the flash tube (which most Bowens mount strobes do not have) It's somewhat useless without some kind of user modification. Works well with LED, a fail with strobes. Wish I'd known. Gels mounting is toy like, as is the build of the gel frames.

    I loved it

    Useful, but disappointing

Firstly, it's important to know that fresnels only work with a point source. So a bare bulb monolight - anything with a diffuser in front of it, forget it. I bought this to use with my Genaray 100w PortaBright. The fresnel should give a very direct crisp light, significantly brighter when at spot. This unit does this only sort-of. If you've ever used a decent tungsten fresnel you know what to expect, and this only gives half of that. It does work ok, but disappoints nonetheless.

This product is good if you have low ambient lighting. With high ambient lighting, it is hard to see the difference. The color gels that comes with it is good also with low ambient light.

    Does a decent job

This fresnel offers satisfactory results for small lights such as the Amaran 100d. Please remember this fresnel is meant for lights under 150 watts. The adjustable ring is more loose than typical fresnels and I can this becoming problematic if one were the move the light. However, this product does offer good spotting and flooding with an even beam spread. For the price point, I think this is a very good pairing with Amaran products. The included gels are easy to place in and remove. If Impact could make a gel mount for gaffers to cut their own gels and place onto the fresnel I would definitely buy a unit. I recommend this product for people looking to acquire a cost effective alterntive to the Aputure 2x fresnel.

While this model doesn't offer optional barndoors, the Aputure Fresnel 2X Attachment would be a good alternative that does. https://bhpho.to/34l37Lt

Will it focus a gobo sharply?

Unfortunately, the Impact Fresnel Spot S-Mount Attachment cannot accept gobos. A better option for gobos with a sharp image is the Westcott Optical Spot by Lindsay Adler for Bowens, BH # WEOSLABWNS. https://bhpho.to/3HjR3Kq

    question

Does the size of the modeling lamp have an effect on ability to use the full zoom range of the fresnel light modifier?
    Asked by: Anonymous
Yes. On one Impact monolight (160 w/s) the modeling light sticks out about 3 inches from the base of the S-Mount, and the full range is available. On another model of Impact moonlight (400 w/s) the modeling lamp is more tubular and sticks out about 4 inches from the base of the S-mount. You cannot go full wide without hitting the lamp with the lens. Impact is on the 40 degree, not the 10 degree end of the range.
