Porta Brace AR-Z8 overview

  • 1Description

Designed to house and transport the Zoom F8 field recorder, the Porta Brace AR-Z8 is a durable carrying case with interior foam padding. Its sturdy construction is intended to protect your F8 while you use it in the field.

The AR-Z8 is fashioned out of abrasion-resistant 1000 denier Cordura nylon, utilizing two rigid frame panels to hold the F8 in place—panels which are lined with foam padding for absorbing shocks in the field. The case comes with a carry strap, and it features clear vinyl windows that allow full view of all displays. The case also facilitates side access through panels that can be easily closed with the provided touch fasteners and zippers.

Can be worn on a belt or connected to an HB-15 shoulder strap (included) to wear around your neck

    Porta Brace AR-Z8 reviews

AR-Z8 Case for Zoom F8 Digital Recorder is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from fits well, missing pockets Fits very well to Zoom F8, there is space for battery underneath, from all pockets are holes to slip a cable thru, well done. For me not explainable is the front fabric, that is open on the bottom side. Could be a nice pocket, but is thought as a slipper or holder, but don't know for what... Also on the negative side are the very well built zippers on the bottom: they are made from metal, what is great thought, but in reality, the make noise with every movement of the pocket. And there are 4 of these noisy guys. Not so clever for a recording bag. But can be easily replaced with a silent cord.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from May Depend on the Application Porta-Brace produces are first rate, and the Zoom F8 bag is no exception. There may be better choices, depending on your application. The Z8 case is ideal if you have multiple wireless mics in the side pocket, and need a shoulder-ready, run-and-gun kit. There are sleeves on each side with access to the XLR ports, but it takes a flashlight and steady hand to connect wired mics. There is no tight cover, per se, but a flexible, clear dome protects the contents from drips, while allowing access to the controls. In my case, I found a Porta-Brace CAR-1 or CAR-2 is a better fit. The CAR cases come with a long partition and several lateral partitions. The Zoom F7 can go in one section, and be protected with headphones, microphones and a power supply in other sections. Everything is readily accessible through a zippered top flap.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good...but needed a couple mods for my taste I'm using this for sound effects recording not location sound on a set. F8 fits great in here, love the proper access at the bottom to get at the battery. Also dig the front flap which is new to me, I shove one side of my headphones in there when I'm not wearing them. Solid construction as is expected from Portabrace. Couple of things I've modified are duct tape around the bottom access zippers as they are quite noisy jangling around, also cut out the elastic bands inside the front compartment as they were getting in the way of storing things (I don't use wireless), and safety pinned a velcro strip to the bottom back so as to fully close the plastic shield while transporting.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Some Flaws This is a case for the F8, which has 8 inputs. If all of those inputs are on a cable, you're probably fine. If you're doing wireless, you might run into an issue. If you need an external power battery, you might have an issue. The bag is well made and has some nice features, but not a lot of room to build out your kit in. Add to that (as another reviewer mentioned), it has two zippers on the bottom that need to be rigged for silence... it just misses the mark. If it was not as expensive I wouldn't ding it as hard, but for the price (minus one star) and the lack of slots and spots for my gear (minus one star), I will be looking for another bag. I'll probably still use this bag for a backup Zoom F4 when I'm not moving around much or only have stationary inputs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good bang for your buck Small and light for location work has all the essentials. My F8 is a perfect fit, room for a couple of wireless mics. Pretty easy to connect cables and the zipper bottom has been handy for changing batteries oh, and the price is right!
