Celestron TrailSeeker 20-60x80 Overview

The 45° angled-viewing TrailSeeker 80 20-60x80 Spotting Scope by Celestron features a versatile 20-60x zoom eyepiece to provide views from generous vistas to tight, detailed images. The 80mm objective lens possesses light-gathering capability superior to that of scopes with smaller lenses, which makes for a bright image and enhances the scope's capabilities in low-light conditions. Proprietary anti-reflection XLT fully multi-coated optics allow for efficient light transmission through the optical path for crisp, high-contrast views.

The angled eyepiece permits comfortable glassing whether standing, sitting, or lying flat on the ground. Dual focusing offers precise image control by allowing a preliminary coarse focus, which you can then refine using the fine-focus control for a tack-sharp view. You can rotate the scope in its tripod collar a full 360° to put the eyepiece in the best position. The TrailSeeker 80 has a nitrogen-filled waterproof housing that won't fog up in humid conditions and features a sliding sunshade to keep glare or raindrops off the objective lens. To facilitate digiscoping, a T-adapter is included so you can mount a T-ring compatible with your DSLR to the eyepiece.

For adverse weather conditions, a stay-on carrying case is included that can be left on the scope during use—zippers fore and aft open for the objective lens and the eyepiece. The TrailSeeker is designed to use standard 1.25" astronomical eyepieces, so in addition to the included zoom eyepiece, you can use other eyepieces on your spotting scope to achieve higher magnifications, wider fields of view, etc.

Celestron TrailSeeker 20-60x80 Reviews

Disappointed

I like Celestron. I used their astronomical products for years - to good effect. I ordered this scope for birding based on my experience with them and reviews I had read/watched. It would be unfair to say that the scope was less than most reviewers comments. There was lots of CA at high power - more than I could get past. The image quality deteriorated the more I cranked up the power. The scope felt too "plasticky" - I know this is all subjective. And, the barrel was partially unscrewed from the base inside the box. I screwed it back together and used it for a couple of days and then I sent it back - B and H is so good with whom to work. In several years, I have returned two products - this scope and a camera lens. B and H provided wonderful customer service. I will say the scope provided a bright image, worked pretty well at lower powers, and probably would have been okay - were it not for the fact that it was unscrewed in the box. Perhaps that circumstance created some of the issues I had with the scope. I ordered a Pentax PF-65EDA II as a replacement and will be writing a review of it.

Great scope!

The TrailSeeker 80 offers great performance at a value price. I bought it for my wife. We have a small pond outside our backyard and the scope gives great clarity to the waterfowl who inhabit the wetlands. I plan on building a digiscope adaptor which will allow us to easily record videos and pictures. I spent a lot of time researching the options, and am very satisfied with this purchase. Yes, you can do better, but nothing in the price range comes close. Given the price and ease of setup, this is the perfect package for the price. It's relatively portable and should provide years of service.

question

What is the type of integrated tripod plate? (I.e. what head is compatible with integrated tripod mount without extra plate?
Asked by: Serge K.
I don't know what the mount is called but the unit fits ideally with my Manfrotto tri pod with a Manfrotto 498RC2 head. The quick release works no worries.Regards Greg
