LG WP50NB40 Overview

This drive is also equipped Silent Play and Jamless Play, as well as a 4MB buffer to help prevent under-runs. A USB 2.0 cable is included for connecting and powering the drive. A Windows Blu-ray drive install disc with added software is also included.

I used it for about 10 days, watched about 15 movies with it and it just stopped reading discs, it won't recognize anything. LG should be ashamed of themselves.

Purchased this to RIP my 4k UHD movies. It DOES NOT support this out of the box. You will need to follow instructions on the MakeMKV forums to allow this, and this will void your warranty. That being said, if you only want to use this for ripping Blu-ray and DVDs, it works very well and is quite fast.

Will this read DV files on BD-R on MacBook Air M2 running Sequoia?

The LG Slim Portable Blu-ray/DVD Writer, B&H # LGWP50NB40, will work with a MacBook Air M2 running macOS 15 Sequoia; it will be able to read the files on a BD-R disc as long as you have software that can open the format the videos are in.

So what's the final verdict? Does this unit write Blu-rays to a mid 2012 MacBook Pro running El Capitan? I've already tried the LG BP 60NB10 that I bought on Amazon and was not successful with this. That model also would not play a homemade DVD.

Yes, the LG Slim Portable Blu-ray/DVD Writer BH #LGWP50NB40 can write Blu-ray discs on a Mac 2012 running el Capitan, however, they would only be Data blu-rays. If you want to make blu-ray discs to play on a blu-ray player, you would need additional software.
