Available for download, the Inder Goldfinger Percussionist from Spitfire Audio is a performance-oriented virtual musical instrument based on 17,287 samples of a wide range of "esoteric" percussion instruments from India and elsewhere. The virtual instrument draws on the samples as you play on your keyboard, recreating your playing in the sound of the percussion instrument of your choice. The sampled sounds, performed by Inder Goldfinger, cover not only individual hits and rolls, but also an arsenal of looping phrases and groves that can be made to lock to the tempo of your tracks. A water patch — recorded with hydrophones — brings to life Inder's experiments using water to morph the sounds whilst playing.

Four microphone mixes can be combined and blended for effectful shifts in focus and depth, or to scale the library to the system you are currently working on. The microphone positions are also output assignable for surround use. For further sound customization there is a dynamics slider which allows for volume modulation within your score and an expression slider which controls the overall volume. The library is sampled with several slightly varying versions of each sound, known as round robins. Each time you hit a certain key a random round robin plays back, giving your virtual performance a lifelike feel. Recorded dry, the samples allow for easy manipulation and in-depth control of ambient effects.
