K-Tek Stingray Overview

The KSWB1 Stingray Waistbelt from K-Tek is designed for smaller gear packages centered on the Sound Devices 633 and the Zaxcom Maxx (sold separately) or similar sized mixer/recorders. It can be used by the audio professional with or without a mixer bag in applications for sound designers, field producers, ENG (Electronic News Gathers), videographers, and more.

Connecting to the KSWB1, which is secured by an inner belt, there is one buckle on each side that attaches to two carabiners. The carabiners connect to the top and bottom of the backside of your audio mixer bag, and a single strap loop allows for tightening and loosening of both carabiners in one swift motion, while still allowing individual adjustment.

With plenty of strap length; however, the versatile design makes the harness suitable for various body types and sizes, and with Molle Straps and D-Rings along the back, it offers plenty of rigging points for additional accessories. In conclusion, the KSWB1 Stingray Waistbelt creates solutions for everyday tasks.

Great for compact sound kits

This was purchased to use in two different situations, with my SFX and boom op kits. The SFX kit is built around a MixPre-6 II with Stingray Junior kit, and there are times where the shoulder strap just gets in the way, or where it’s more important to be able to look straight down at the meters. The belt is easy to adjust and keeps the bag right where I need it when I’m running around recording sound effects out in the wild. My boom op kit is built around a Sound Devices MM-1, and often with a wireless transmitter. That, plus cables, make for a lot of stuff that can be difficult to manage on a regular belt. The Stingray Waist Belt makes it easy to carry and manage everything, and since I wear a chest-harnessed tactical pack with tools and expendables, the belt keeps everything clear. When a chest harness-mounted sound bag is too much, and a regular (wardrobe) belt or a shoulder strap isn’t enough, this hits the happy medium.

question

How does this belt feel compared to the Orca waist belt?
Asked by: Nick G.
The two waist belts are very comparable. Both are lightweight, padded, and offer a set of 4 Carabiners. The Ktek KSWB1 has one additional benefit; molle straps and D-Rings along the back offer plenty of rigging points for additional accessories.

question

Would this work with the Stingray Medium Mixer Bag?
Asked by: DNN
In terms of fit: yes, you could attach a Medium Stingray Mixer Bag to the Waistbelt. However, the real question is whether you would be comfortable with the payload that goes into a Medium when you're only wearing a Stingray waistbelt. The best choice for a Stingray Medium Mixer Bag is the Stingray Harness. In a pinch you could make it work with a waistbelt, but fatigue would set in much quicker due to the bigger weight of gear that goes along with a medium.
