Garmin 010-01534-11 overview

  • 1Description

Use the 4" sunlight-readable dual-orientation touchscreen of the Garmin Montana 680t Handheld GPS guide you on your next excursion. You can choose between landscape and portrait modes for the best possible view of the map or data you are trying to interpret. Whether you are traveling by foot, boat, or car the free one-year subscription of BirdsEye satellite imagery helps you reach your destination. TOPO U.S. 100K topographic maps illustrate the terrain using relief lines, and the included camera lets you take your own images. All of these 8 megapixel images are geo-tagged automatically so you will know where they were taken.

This unit utilizes both GPS and GLONASS satellites for quicker signal acquisition so you get a fix on your position approximately 20 times faster than GPS alone. The receiver also can interpret Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) signals so you can receive information from terrestrial antennas even when your view of the sky is obstructed. The WAAS system also provides greater position accuracy overall. HotFix satellite prediction cuts down on initial signal acquisition by approximating their positions.

The unit's built-in 3-axis tilt-compensated electronic compass shows your heading even while standing still, no matter how it is positioned. It also houses a barometric altimeter which tracks changes in pressure to pinpoint your precise altitude so you will know your distance from sea level. The GPS comes with a rechargeable battery, or you can use AA batteries.

    Garmin 010-01534-11 reviews

Montana 680t Handheld GPS is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for hunting Really works with a solid feel and great features. I went hunting in northern Nevada. It was a bit difficult to digest the manual but once you are working with it, it is easy to get used to. I would like to see a one click lock screen feature. It can be a pain to forget to lock it while it is working in your pocket. The GPS tracking is really impressive and so is the battery life. I'm glad I went with the bigger screen. I did not chose to use the camera so far. I would advise getting the local hunting maps for any type of hunting. I was able to track the 50 square miles of back country I covered on my side by side and the 12 miles of walking, complete with vertical etc. I love it. To get the last star I would ask for the one button lock screen and a better manual.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Crash! Use for expedition-type paddling. Right now I have an expensive piece of junk. Device freezes or shuts down everytime I try to view a route on the map. First rep said he had never heard of the problem, second rep said they were aware of the problem and were working on it. Release date of software update tbd. As a result, I have not used the unit much, although navigating through the menus seems simple and intuitive, and I like the big screen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great Garmin GPS! I have had at least 5 Garmin GPS's and they just keep getting better! I plan on using the 680T for kayaking, cycling and hiking. This model with the touch screen and complete map is just what I was looking for. I also like the option to use AA batteries or the Li-Po pack

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Unit Have this set up to use on my quad and motorcycle. It is easy to see in the daylight and the turn by turn voice choices make it easy to find one you can hear. Glad to see that Garmin has the Mac interface worked out. Takes some time to get used to creating routes for motorcycle trips but gets easier the more you do it.
