Toshiba X300 overview

  • 1Description

Add 5TB of storage to your system to store and quickly access files such as movies, photos, music, documents and more with the 5TB X300 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal Hard Drive from Toshiba. Designed for applications such as graphic design, gaming, and animation, this drive connects to your system's 3.5" bay using its SATA III 6 Gb/s interface.

This 5TB drive also features a rotational speed of 7200 rpm and a 128MB cache to help ensure uninterrupted data transfers. Additionally, the drive is built with features to help ensure it will have a strong operating life, such as Ramp Loading technology, Native Command Queuing (NCQ), and Drive Stabilization technology. Ramp Load technology helps ensure that the recording head never touches the disk media. The result is less wear to the recording head and media, as well as improved drive protection while in transit. This drive is compatible with Windows & Mac systems and is protected by a limited 2-year warranty.

Designed for Gamers and Professionals
A rotational speed of 7200 rpm combined with a 128MB data buffer delivers performance for gamers and professionals
High Storage Density and Capacity
High-precision head positioning supported by advanced format technology (physical 4kB sector) and dual stage actuators for high storage density and capacity of 5TB
Real-Time Performance
On-board cache algorithm and buffer management optimize cache allocation between read and write cycles for improved real-time drive performance
Data Protection Technology
Ramp loading technology reduces wear to the recording head and media for improved drive reliability. Built-in shock sensors detect impact, shielding adjacent track data
Drive Stabilization Technology
A motor shaft secured at both ends helps reduce system-induced vibrations, thus stabilizing the platters for improved tracking accuracy and performance during read and write operations
Native Command Queuing (NCQ) Support
Optimizes the order in which received read and write commands are executed, resulting in increased performance and reduced mechanical workload from the drive.
Other Features
  • Serial ATA interface
  • Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) technology
  • Tunnel Magneto-Resistive (TMR) Recording Head technology
  • Low power consumption with adaptive power modes and Serial ATA DIPM

    Toshiba X300 reviews

5TB X300 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal Hard Drive is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid, fast . . . loud? I bought (4) of these for a 4-bat RAID 5. They push ProRes 4K just fine, so that's about all I would ask of them at this point. They spec out as noted. My only other comment would be, I have another similar RAID with another brand of matched drives, and it is WAY quieter. These Toshibas have an unpleasant clacking. It's not so loud it's disruptive, as it's only when they're reading or writing heavily, but it's still sort of unnerving to hear your data grinding away with mechanically unpleasant sounds. I would buy them again, but only if they were at a deep discount (which is why I got them this time).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent and reliable We have been using 5tb in a 4 drive Raid 5 set up (OWC) for about 6 months (bought here) and these drives have been amazing. No issues and the speed is incredible! Fastest drive we have. It's not quiet so if you're looking for a whisper solution i'd look for another set up. But we place the drives in the corner and we forget they're there. Excellent value for money and reliability (which is really more important).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'll buy another ASAP I use this drive for offsite storage. As precious (and gigantic) as all my photos are, I have everything duplicated on multiple drives. But this 5 TB drive is replacing a 3 TB drive that filled up. The speed is quite good, using a SATA III / USB3 docking station. As soon as I copied everything over, I put the drive in storage. House burns down, I still have all my stuff elsewhere. And I'll update this drive with new photos after a couple of months. Meanwhile, I have another internal drive in my PC that will run out of space before long. And so it goes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from so far, dead on arrival upon mounting drive, drive made a terrible squeaking noise as i tried to write to it. previous reviews said it was loud so i thought perhaps that was normal. Carbon Copy ended with notification that nothing could be written to drive as destination was no responding due to harward failure. Additionally product was minimally packaged with light bumper on only one side outside of box

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great drive for the price Easy to install, not at all noisy as some reviews suggest, and fast. Amazed about the price for it's capacity and wonder if there is anything wrong but so far very satisfied. I'm using this drive for general use and as a backup. I do recommend this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FAST! Low Latencies! The noises/sounds are normal! This drive is FAST and has Low Latencies! Low latencies are achieved by faster head movement, and fast head movement (head actuator) is what causes the noises/sounds that most are talking about! Kinda like the old IDE hard drives! Veterans will know what I am talking about, but if one's computer hardware experience is at or less than 5-7 years, then it's natural for one to feel that these are noisy to the extent that there is something wrong with these drives! Trust me (if you can!), although the noise levels are elevated on these drives (for a good reason), there is absolutely nothing wrong with the drives! Quieter drives will spin slowly and/or will have higher latencies due to slower actuators that keep the noise levels down! In fact the 4TB, 5TB and 6TB X300 drives are based off of Toshiba's Enterprise drive master design! You will see that on the drive label too...look for the MSIP identifier...it will refer to MSIP-REM-TSD-MG04ACPn00E the lower case n representing either 4,5,6 based on the drive size. The P could show as different letters on your drive based on the interface I think. The last letter E indicates the enterprise drive design. I have 9 of the 6TB versions (actually I got lucky and got the pre-X300 models...MD04ACA600 which comes with a 3 year warranty, and is a tried and tested design!) It doesn't look like anything has changed between the MD04ACAn00 (n being the capacity 4,5,6) and the new x300 series other than the warranty reduction on the x300. Given that they inherit the Enterprise drive design, Toshiba rates these for production, commercial loads. Their performance is similar to the Western Digital Black Edition drives! Highly recommended! P.S. For the same reasons cited above that makes the drive noisy, the drive may also run a few degrees warmer than some competitor drives, but nothing to be worried about as long as used in a well ventilated case! I have 8 of these in RAID Zero (with alternate data redundancy solutions outside of this implementation), and I easily get 600MB/s to 800MB/s large sequential transfers. Again...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fast and as loud as any 7200rpm drive I purchased 4 here and 2 from Amazon. These were the 2015 X300, while Amazon was a couple more dollars but shipped a 2014 model. Thumbs up B&H!Like any drive, one has to give a neutral rating until used a while. Cheers!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far a great product Very easy to install inside my Dell PowerEdge Server! Connected via SATA. Ready to go out of the box. My favorite HDD's are Toshiba. Running personal media server from this drive and three more.
