Tiffen Ultra Pol Overview

Blending two distinct filter effects into one, the 4.5" Round Warm Ultra Circular Polarizer Filter from Tiffen helps to reduce reflections and glare as well as provide an overall warming tone. The Ultra circular polarizer effect provides deep, saturated, and rich colors and efficiently cuts haze and reflections from non-metallic surfaces. Complementing these effects, the incorporation of a Warming 812 filter into the design adds a natural glow to skin tones and other subjects, making it ideally suited for use in outdoor open shade conditions where there is an excessive blue color cast.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings. It measures 4.5" in diameter and is suitable for use in select matte boxes and sunshades.

Ultra circular polarizer significantly reduces reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.
Lessens haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
A circular polarizer differs from a linear polarizer in that it supports full use of a camera's autofocus and auto exposure functions.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° from the sun.
Warming 812 filter effect provides an overall warm tone to the image and is ideal for working in conditions with an overwhelming blue color cast.

question

What is the differences between this model and http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/398871-REG/Schneider_68013038_138_mm_True_Linear_Polarizing.htmlIt seems like its just different descriptions but the same product. The only noticeable difference is a 10 year warranty on the more expensive model. What exactly does this cover? Does it cover it breaking?

Basically, there are two types of Polarizing filters; Linear and Circular. Linear are used for manual focusing as they can confuse AF sensors. Circular filters are designed for AF lenses and cameras but can be used on manual focus cameras as well. For more details on the two, please see: http://bhpho.to/MF21zoThe Schneider 138mm True-Linear Polarizing Glass filter is optimized for motion picture and television cameras. Having an extinction ratio of ER 374, the Schneider True-Pol is 12-times more effective than other polarizing filters. The 138mm Circular Ultra Polarizing Filter from Tiffen is a similar filter yielding a more intense look to your images and is designed for AF cameras. Because of manufacturing differences, circular polarizing filters cost more than comparable linear filters. Both filters come with ten year warranties that cover manufacturing or workmanship defects.

question

Will I need to buy any kind of rotating adapter to drop this in? I have a matte box (on order) that states: 2 universal 360 degree rotating filter stages + 2 filter trays that support both 4x4 and 4x5.65 filter sizes
Asked by: Rob L.
Which matte box did you purchase? Does it accept 138mm filters?
