Key Features
  • SCHOTT HT Glass
  • Phase-Corrected Roof Prisms
  • HDC and AquaDura Lens Coatings
  • 62° Wide-Angle Viewing
Built with the same materials and to the same precise specifications as the larger models, Leica's 8x32 Ultravid HD-Plus Binoculars deliver bright and clear high-contrast images across the entire field of view with true color rendition and virtually zero distortion. The smaller objectives reduce the overall size and weight for better portability and less muscle strain during long-duration viewing sessions, while still delivering competent low-light performance. The combination of the relative low 8x magnification and wide 62° apparent angle of view produces an immersive viewing experience that lends itself to long observation sessions.

Leica Ultravid HD-Plus 8x32 Overview

Built with the same materials and to the same precise specifications as the larger models, Leica's 8x32 Ultravid HD-Plus Binoculars deliver bright and clear high-contrast images across the entire field of view with true color rendition and virtually zero distortion. The smaller objectives reduce the overall size and weight for better portability and less muscle strain during long-duration viewing sessions, while still delivering competent low-light performance. The combination of the relative low 8x magnification and wide 62° apparent angle of view produces an immersive viewing experience that lends itself to long observation sessions.

Leica employs specially formulated SCHOTT HT glass, which increases light transmission especially in the blue-violet light band, improves color fidelity, and enhances low-light performance. Scratch- and abrasion-resistant High Durable Coating (HDC) and hydrophobic AquaDura coating on the outer lenses protect surfaces and cause water and oil to bead off for easier cleaning and clearer vision. The roof prisms feature P40 phase correction and proprietary High Lux System (HLS) coatings. These coatings virtually eliminate chromatic aberration for enhanced color rendition and increased contrast.

Complementing the optical performance are uncompromising construction details. To reduce user fatigue during long glassing sessions, the chassis is made of a lightweight yet durable magnesium alloy, with a high-tensile titanium center hinge axle. The optical tubes are nitrogen filled for fogproof performance and sealed to make the binoculars submersible to 16 feet. Ergonomic thumb indents on the bottom of the binoculars, coupled with protective rubber armoring, provide a comfortable slip-resistant grip. A lubrication-free focus system provides fast and precise focusing, with PETP-Discs to provide smooth movement throughout the broad operating temperature range.

Worth The Money

I own 10x42 Trinovid, 8x20 Ultravid and now 8x32 Ultravid. The small guys are fantastic for light carry/travel. The big guys are good, but heavy for extended carry. I was looking for a tweener and these fit the bill. I really do not feel that I am sacrificing with the smaller lens system. These resolve brighter, sharper, and more vivid than my Trins. They handle color distortion better. Nice weight for extended carry. You really do pay more for that extra 10% better in all brands, with the Trinovid line being a good base for quality. Leica have a fantastic warranty and great build quality. You are buying durability, repairability, and capability. For me, along with great B&H pricing, it was worth the extra cost. This model will get probably 80% of my use. Compared to my Trins, they went deep into the evening before they lost image. Very impressive. The Trins are great for a larger size image and sheer depth. The optical quality out of my little 8x20's are super impressive. Ultravid is worth the bump if you have the funds and use your binoculars on a frequent basis. For all brands, if you rarely use your binoculars, cheaper is better. The quality really shows up in use and environmental challenges. The money shows up. All three have a home and a place and I am glad I have all three. If you buy Leica and find it is not for you, they are easy to move on for little or no loss. Transferrable warranty is solid. I imagine they offer such a warranty because the build is so good, the claims ratio is most likely very small. I am very happy with my purchase. Others have expressed additional attributes and I do not need to repeat more of the same.
