  • 1Description

A Micro Four Thirds CMOS sensor with 4K image capture and RAW recording is introduced to DJI's quadcopter line with the Inspire 1 v2.0 RAW featuring the Zenmuse X5R camera and gimbal system along with a 15mm f/1.7 lens. Forgoing the fixed landing gear design found on many earlier quadcopters, the Inspire 1 features a retractable arm system whereby the underside of each prop motor has a foot to act as a landing pod when the arms are lowered. In-flight, the arms lift up to provide the camera an unobstructed 360-degree view. A 3-axis gimbal keeps shots steady and the camera pointed the same direction as the quadcopter banks and turns. The camera records internally to microSDHC/SDXC memory cards or SSD drives and can also beam a live 720p feed to a mobile device running the DJI GO app or a monitor or FPV glasses with an HDMI input. Two transmitters (radio controllers) are included so that one operator can pilot and another can pan and tilt the camera.

As with many other multi-rotor systems, the Inspire 1 relies on a GPS-based stabilization system that - thanks to spatial awareness - is able to hold a position even when experiencing wind interference, can compensate for overzealous pilot inputs to help avoid stalling, automatically brings the aircraft home in the event of signal loss or at the press of a button, and makes possible a number of semi-automated flight modes that can be enabled through the app. There is also an "indoor" mode which relies on Vision Position technology - combining optical flow with ultrasonics - to provide stability indoors or in other contexts where GPS is unavailable (Note: certain features will be unavailable in indoor mode).

What Ready-to-Fly Means
This Inspire 1 bundle comes ready-to-fly (RTF). This means a pre-bound transmitter (radio controller) is included and that no major assembly is required – in particular, no assembly that requires soldering. It is important – as with any multi-rotor – to follow the user guide to ensure proper calibration before embarking on your first flight

Integrated 4K Camera with MFT Mount and 15mm Lens

Micro Four Thirds Sensor with MFT Mount
Sporting a Micro Four Thirds CMOS sensor, the Inspire 1 v2.0 RAW introduces mirrorless camera performance to the Inspire series. The featuring a standard MFT mount, the Zenmuse X5R camera includes the Panasonic Lumix 15mm f/1.7 lens, and also works with the separately available Olympus M. ED 12mm f/2.0 lens
4K and HD Video Capture
The Zenmuse X5R is able to capture video at up to DCI 4K 4096 x 2160 at 23.98p or UHD 4K at 29.97p
RAW Video Recording
In addition to H.264, the X5R features Cinema DNG RAW recording, which minimizes compression while maximizing latitude for image manipulation in post
16MP Stills Capability
Not just for video, the Zenmuse X5R can snap still from the air at up to 16MP resolution. In addition to single-shot, the camera support busts of 3, 5, or 7 frames and can take time-lapse at stepped intervals of between three and 60 seconds. Photos are captured in either JPEG or DNG RAW. With the X5R, in addition to full-auto, Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, and Manual exposure modes are provided
3-Axis Gimbal
The Zenmuse X5R camera is mounted via an integrated 3-axis gimbal which uses brushless servo motors to keep the shot stable and the horizon level. The camera pans a full 360-degrees so that no matter which way the quadcopter turns, the camera can remain locked on the subject. Manual panning and tilting can be affected using controls on the transmitter
Live HD View
A real-time feed from the Zenmuse X5R camera can be displayed in 720p HD on a mobile device or HDMI monitor, making this it a great choice for FPV (first-person view) flying as well as enabling videographers and photographers to monitor framing from the ground. This is made possible by the inclusion of the DJI Lightbridge system within the flight electronics, which features a range of up to 1.2 miles

For connecting an FPV monitor or glasses there is an HDMI port on the transmitter. Plus there is a USB port to keep you mobile device's battery topped up. And included mount allows you to attach a smartphone or tablet directly to the transmitter
Modular Gimbal and Camera
The Zenmuse X5R gimbal and camera assembly can be removed from the Inspire 1 for safe transport and future upgrades

Airframe Design

Retractable Carbon Fiber Arms
The prop arms rest in a lowered position when the Inspire is on the ground, acting as landing gear. Once in the air, they can be retracted to give the camera unobstructed views across 360-degrees. Carbon fiber is used in the construction because of its high strength to weight ratio
Aerodynamic Design
Not only does it give the Inspire 1 a sleek look, the aerodynamic airframe helps reduce resistance for better performance and increased battery life

Flight Control System

Fly Indoors and Without GPS
DJI's Optical Flow technology uses a specially designed camera as well as sonic waves to provide the same stability function indoors as GPS does outdoors. This technology allows the Inspire to hold its location, stop when the controls are released, and quickly respond to pilot commands even when GPS is unavailable
App-Based Control Software
Everything from manual camera controls to flight telemetry – even auto takeoff and landing – can be accessed via the Inspire 1 Mobile app. It is also possible to create autopilot courses using waypoints, just as you would on the DJI iPad Ground Station System

Note: The tablet must be connected to the transmitter via USB, and to use the waypoint map an Internet connection is required
Manual Mode
Change all of your camera settings, including ISO, White Balance, Exposure, and more on the fly ensuring every shot looks exactly the way you want
Live Map and Radar
See precisely where your Inspire 1 is at all times on the live map. The map can be enlarged when needed, and shows your most recent flight path
Dynamic Home Point
When GPS signal is available on the transmitter (remote control), the Home Point automatically refreshes. This becomes useful while traveling in a car or on a boat allowing the return-to-home point to move where the operator goes. Multiple configurations are available via the Dynamic Home Point function
Auto-Takeoff and Landing
Takeoff and landing are available with just a tap. Tap once to takeoff and your Inspire 1 will hover and transform, ready to start filming. Then tap again to make it transform into landing mode and auto land
Transmitter Customization
Put yourself in charge by tailoring the Inspire 1's controls to your personal needs. This way, your Inspire 1 moves and responds in ways you're most comfortable with

Transmitter (Radio Controller)

Take control of your Inspire 1 in the air with a dedicated transmitter (radio controller) designed specifically for it. Operating on 2.4 GHz, it features dedicated buttons for photo and video capture, a gimbal control dial, and more. It includes an integrated 6000mAh rechargeable battery
    Use Two Transmitters
For an even greater level of precision, use a second transmitter and fly with a friend. With two people controlling the same quadcopter, one person pilots the flight path while the other aims the gimbal and camera. Each user can have their own screen to see exactly what is being shot in real-time

    Smart Battery System

    Smart Power Management
The flight battery constantly supplies the flight computer with remaining voltage. Using special algorithms the computer supplies the pilot with estimates of remaining flying distance and time to return home
    Automated Charging
The battery tracks the voltage of each cell, the total number of charges and discharges, and the overall health and battery status

Inspire 1 v2.0 RAW Quadcopter with Zenmuse X5R 4K Camera and 3-Axis Gimbal is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Inspire 1 RAW rewrites history on the UAV The DJI Inspire 1 RAW is absolutely the best system for the Pro who does not want a complicated system. It is probably not as good as an Aerial pro system that costs $20,000+, but certainly closes the gap for efficiency usability! I absolutely love my Inspire 1 RAW! The quality on this UAV is 2nd to none!!! The craft, camera & lens is top shelf! I did have a minor issue with the SSD, but B&H is replacing it. If you want a UAV that has professional quality, stability , ease of use, reliability & flexibility, this is the UAV for you!!! I had the X5 which is a great UAV, but opted to get the Inspire 1 RAW instead. Hope this helps somebody!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Glad I Did This I have flown a number of quads over the years, and decided on the new Inspire because of other reviews I had read. I also needed to update my camera line-up a little bit in my production company, and saw the X5R/Osmo combination as a good, affordable way to do that. I am very pleased I did, and am glad I ordered from B&H. The Inspire is exactly what I needed and it outperforms everything else I have ever flown. The X5R is beautiful, and it will make my life a lot easier on some doco projects I am working right now. DJI is doing some great things these days, and B&H has been great to deal with for a very long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic. Any familiar with DJI knows that if you get a good one, it's great. I transitioned from an S1000 flying a GH4 (I work exclusively over water, so the motor redundancy was a must) and good Lord, the Inspire 1 Raw is nothing but a pleasure to use. Sure the initial setup gave me a bit of a go, but after I updated the firmware on everything in the right order (Drone > Camera > Transmitter) everything works great. This drone is so simple it's like a toy, but it gets high enough quality footage you can but it next footage shot by a Red in a TV commercial and no one would ever know. Astounding low light and quality video, only thing I wish it had was 4k slow motion... but hey, 1080 at 60fps is fine. If all you want is to fly a GH4 quality camera, then this is the machine for you. It's half the price of a fully setup S1000, which means more aggressive maneuvers and less stress on the nerves. P.S. When it comes to DJI firmware updates after your first setup: JUST DON'T. Look up the flip of death. Once it's working, just leave it alone. (Just my opinion, everything is at your own risk of course)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing technology I waited until a company (like DJI) put their resources into constructing both a platform, software and support for a drone that would work out of the box. For me, the Inspire 1 X5R was the answer. I'm getting used to the controls more with practice and find the process very intuitive. The app, although surprisingly got only 2-3 stars on the Apple app store, is excellent. Everyone who has flown a drone will tell you the same thing, practice, practice, practice. It's true, I'm on my 7th session and already feel very comfortable getting smooth, steady shots while focusing on what I need to. The X5R records simultaneously to both the included SSD and a MicroSD for proxy files (both in variety of formats and resolutions). The quality coming off the RAW footage is sharp, color accurate and easy to grade. The file sizes for the 4K RAW are HUGE as expected, and the process of ingesting this footage will take some time. The free DJI software CineLight will even transcode your footage for you in ProRes (all varieties) and DNG RAW. You cannot plug in the SSD and drag files off, you have to use CineLight to ingest the footage. On my 2nd run, I noticed the jello effect and was very disappointed. I contacted DJI and they helped me update the firmware. I also swapped out the propellers with the extra set (included) and it was back to 100%. If you plan on traveling, you should upgrade the case. The included case is fine for around town transport. If you plan on checking it at the airport or shipping it, I would strongly suggest a Pelican, GoProfessional or HPRC case. Protect your gear! A few add on's you will need: (1) Extra batteries. You'll get approx 12-15min of flight time per battery. (2) A case (3) An old iPhone, iPod touch or iPad Mini to view what you're filming, as I would imagine having your iPhone ring mid-flight is no bueno. This is an amazing piece of technology. I will be getting the Osmo & X5 adapter for handheld work. 15mm lens is great, 45mm on the way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Satisfied! I bought this as an upgrade from my Mavic Pro. The video from the X5R blows the Mavic away. I love working with RAW video and the quality of the image is so much sharper and less noisy too. Easy to fly (slightly more difficult than the Macic) but takes some time to setup. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and am loving my new drone.
