I use this card reader on the Thunderbolt 2 port of my 2013 Mac Pro. Fast transfers to my RAID. I can play 6K compressed RAW footage directly from the card using the Blackmagic player utility. Have not tried the USB-C connection.

Does the job

Thunderbolt 2, not 3

I've been looking everywhere for a reliable Thunderbolt 3 CFast reader, and thought I'd found one. I should've been suspicious when it didn't show an image of the back ports. But it was late, I'm overworked, and I didn't read the specs thoroughly. This is a thunderbolt 2 reader. I wasted my money, and I'm bummed. Don't buy this if you want a thunderbolt 3 reader.

Bought this a while ago for my Blackmagic 4.6K Camera - Will this work with RED Komodo footage shot on a SanDisk, Extreme Pro, 256 GB, CFast 2.0, Card? Will transfer speeds increase if I go with one of the RED Komodo approved/listed readers on your site (under recommended accessories?)
Asked by: Damon
Yes, Other brands of CFAST 2.0 cards would work with the Lexar Workflow CR2 reader. Also a lot depends on if the computer you are connecting to supports the USB 3.1 Gen 2 Standard which would offer 10 Gb/s when using the RED CFAST Reader. https://bhpho.to/3CpgeN6 We think the fastest reader would be this Thunderbolt 3 model from Sonnet - BH #SOSF32CFST https://bhpho.to/2oNHh17

can it work on thunderbolt1 on macbook pro 2011?
Asked by: Lazar
Yes, Thunderbolt I & II are compatible. However, this set up will work only at the computers I's speed, not the readers II's speed.

question

Is there a practical transfer speed advantage with the Thunderbolt vs USB 3. I mean this with regards to this reader's options and also when compared to other USB 3 readers like SanDisk Extreme PRO CFast 2.0 Reader/Writer B&H # SAEPCCR -- I want the fastest possible transfer but I'm not sure if the bottleneck would come from the interface, the cards, the computer, or something else. In other words, if I use Thunderbolt with this cable, can I transfer faster than the 500mb/s that is advertised on the Sandisk USB 3 version? Thanks!
Asked by: noah
USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt are very fast and as for the listed speed of 500MB/s Data Transfer rate that is the best it can do with the SanDisk Extreme PRO CFast 2.0 Reader/Writer B&H # SAEPCCR MFR # SDDR-299-A46. But there are many variables and it can be slowed down by the card, computer, cable and or the reader. If you have Thunderbolt 2 and use the Lexar system with the hub, Lexar Professional Workflow HR2 4-Bay Thunderbolt 2/USB 3.0 Hub B&H # LEWFHR2 MFR # LRWHR2RBNA that should be about the fastest. But there is no guarantee by the manufactures as to the exact speed you personally will get.

Extremely frustrated! I purchased this with a Lexar Professional CFast 2.0 3500x card and I am having a very hard time getting It to connect every time without freezing on my brand new, straight out of the box 2019 MacBook Pro. I have never been more irritated. Am I doing something wrong here?? it wait her has to be the reader or the card because it has worked before with incident. Thought I was passed that. If it does not work I WILL be returning .

question

I read: It can be used with a workflow hub or on the go with an included USB cable. But can it be used on the go (in other words separately, without a hub) with a thunderbolt cable also?
Asked by: Christian K.
The reader only has on the back an USB port. The hub has a USB and Thunderbolt.
