Dynalite Baja B6 overview

  • 1Description

Extremely portable and featuring a 2.4 GHz power control wireless receiver, the Baja B6 Battery-Powered Monolight from Dynalite is a 600 Ws strobe that can be taken on-location without the need for AC cables thanks to its removable, rechargeable Li-ion battery that provides 400 full-power flashes and thousands of minimum power flashes on a single charge. Boasting recycling times 0.05 - 4.3 sec., power can be adjusted in 1/10 stop increments over a 7-stop range for maximum flexibility. An LED modeling light is used to conserve battery power.

Among the Baja B6's other attributes are fast flash durations ranging from an action-freezing 1/12,800 to 1/500 second and High Speed Sync up to 1/8,000 sec. is available for most Canon and Nikon DSLRs. To take advantage of HSS Canon users need to purchase dedicated DYBRT616C Transmitter. Nikon users need to purchase a dedicated BYBRT616N Transmitter and also a DYBRR616N dedicated receiver to replace the one that comes with the Baja.

A traditional built-in optical slave is included too, for triggering the Baja with another flash. A stroboscopic C-mode is also available for 5, 10, or 15 flashes per second. The Baja B6 includes a glass dome, metal light stand mount, standard Bowens accessory mount, wireless receiver, umbrella reflector and a protective cap.

16 Channels of wireless control with optional transmitter from up to 590' away

Dynalite Baja B6 reviews

Baja B6 Battery-Powered Monolight is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from awesome head! The construction is rock solid, the output is consistent, and the price is right. The Bowen's mount opens up a universe of high-quality, cost-efficient light modifiers. Recycle time is adequate for anything but a Zoolander-type fashion shoot. My only complaint is the completeness and accuracy of product information from Dynalite. ATTN: Nikon users! The included receiver unit will not work with the Nikon transmitter. You must use the Nikon receiver with the Nikon transmitter. As I type, this is not stated explicitly on any web-available documentation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Buy With Confidence As a location portrait photographer, I wanted to upgrade from my speedlites to a more powerful unit. It was important for me not have to also have to carry external battery packs. For the price, you just can't go wrong with the Baja B6! It's ruggedly built, and definitely does the job! With these 600W lights, I can now balance to the afternoon sun to get great shots during the afternoon. For HSS, remember to buy the separate Dynalite Transmitter for Baja Battery-Powered Monolight! My only Con is how the remote adjusts the power level of the light. When I adjust from the remote, the actual power adjustment is not 1:1 from the remote to the light. For example, when I press the remote to adjust by 10 units, but the light will only render a change of 7 units. The amount the light actually adjusts is not always consistent. With this said, this minor inconvenience has not deterred my overall satisfaction with my purchase of the Baja B6 - in fact, I have purchased two!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not perfect but pretty darn good So far I've used my B6 indoors and for the most part I like. It feels solid without any cables to worry about. The part that's a bit of a let down is the modeling light. It's not bright enough for me to focus properly on my subject in dark environments. On the flip side, the modeling light will not eat up the battery power. Also the manual is poorly written with typos and makes refers to the strobe as the B4 instead of the B6. I haven't try the B6 in high speed sync mode but I'm looking forward to try it out. A solid 4 stars out of 5 in my books.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great portable Light for the price Would like if you could charge additional batteries without placing them in the unit .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fires with my Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT WOOOHOOO First off this is a great Monolight. Excellent battery life, easy to use and portable. If you plan to shoot using high speed shutter sync, consider buying a backup battery. Ok so I'm shooting this 60 year anniversary, awesome night, when I check one of my images for exposure and noticed a light shining on my softbox... I looked to see if there was a light above, Nope. So I fire another shot thinking...what if. And yep, my Baja fired when I took the shot. Ha, now I have two strobes firing together. I later thought to turn the transmitter to the Baja, off, and still, the Baja fired. (Is that too many commas..anyways) I should probably look into this before writing this review, but I am so pumped. The image is how I noticed the Baja fired.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get it if you don't have one or two This light is practical, versatile and provides great lighting. No cords, plugs, and power outlets to worry about. This thing will light up a whole room if you ask it.
