ORCA OR-14 Reviews

It's so roomy

I wanted a bag that could fit 2 C300's in without having to take the monitors off and the OR-14 works great. I can actually fit 1 C300 in with a 70-200 attached and another C300 with a 50 attached plus the monitors AND with the top accessory tray. The top tray is really cool. I put all the smaller accessories and batteries in there leaving the main compartment for the bigger stuff like lenses and power etc. A 70-200 can also fit standing up-right. Unlike other Orca bags, 3 of the 4 outer pockets are actually usable because they protrude out. The one on the back only fits skinny things like maybe a rolled up XLR cable or papers. Forget putting a battery in there. However the front and top pockets can easily fit a battery or mics or cables. (I don't even use those pockets, they stay empty.) One thing that is weird are the carry handles because you have to faff around connecting them to each other. It's kinda annoying but not a deal breaker. Some people complain that there aren't enough dividers. There is 1 long divider that runs the length of the bag and then there are 3 smaller ones. It's enough for me plus I have older bags with left over dividers so I just use those if I need. I have never heard of this company before but I decided to give them a try and I would recommend them for the most part. I also have 2 OR-8's and those are great too if you don't need to use the outer pockets!

Bag It & Tag It

I got the OR-14 specifically to house my SONY FS-100 rig on a Berkey sled system with Wooden Camera NATO Handle Kit, a smallHD 501 monitor and a Sennheiser MKH-50 mic with Cinela LEO Ball and fur. I was hoping to get a smaller bag (the Orca OR-12) but I quickly realized I needed a larger one to fit all my gear: three lenses, lens hoods, tools, batteries, battery charger, WarmCards, small HD Sidefinder, screw on filters in a Kinesis case, and the list goes on. Because of the fixed height of the Bright Tangerine Titan Arm, I have to leave the ingenious top tray at home (which pains me). I have to remove the smallHD 501 monitor as well as the NATO handle, Rycote INV-HQ mkIII shock mount and MKH-50 and Leo ball due to height constraints. The internal LED light is a huge bonus on dark sets or evening exterior shoots. I'm on a big personal project this year and I need to be able to travel light with all my camera gear in one case and my Cartoni Focus tripod in a second case: one case per hand. The Orca case and trolley system rolls beautifully. Three minor things that I would ask Orca to consider addressing: the AA battery case/switch is prone to failure and needs to be handled carefully. I have replaced a number of identical battery cases on my Petrol LED light strips inside my audio bag. I'd like to see a beefier On/OFF switch that wouldn't have to be handled with kids gloves. Also, it would be nice if ORCA could sell as an option a half-size lid tray for people in my situation who can't use the full tray because of the height of their camera rigs, but could still manage to squeeze in a half-size tray. Third the handle seems to have a small bit of play in it but so far, it functions fine, so no complaints here. Honestly I paid a lot more than I wanted to, but in return I got more in the way of design and build quality than any other case I've ever owned.

Any chance there's a way to carry a tripod on this as well? Thanks!

Yes, on the OR-14, there are straps on the outside. Actually there are 2 different ways you can attach a tripod and light stand.
